:weird: I think someone has either a VERY active imagination or is taking about a dozen different 'interesting pharmaceuticals'.
Don't do drugs. I do have a certain amount of creativity. I try to educate myself on various topics. EA wanting to take over, er acquire 2k is one such item. Put together a couple known facts with some speculation and you have the above slightly different post.
Sorry CB, I work outside, A ticket IBEW Lineman. No cat nip for you.:)

When I've first heared about this game (Dead Space) a while ago, I tought, that it would be System Shock 3. (That was the time when EA secured its licence on Shock, and we only know that there would be zombies in a deserted spaceship in this new title, that would reestabilish the originality/creativity etc. of EA games... so my speculation was not without basics...)
Un/fortunatly that is not the case. It won't be SS3 and Shodan's glory will survive... in our mind. However this game has many commons with the Shock series. What do you think about it, will it be similar? Would the atmosphere, gameplay or sg else resemble to SS or is it just a tematical similarity?
However in any case, this game use Unreal engine 3, and as UE is easier to modify, this could be a good basic for a shock conversion/fanfict mod.
EDIT: One more thing, i'm quite sure that with a title like this, EA won't create a new System Shock in the near future.

I was going to make a joke involving the word "fanfiction" in regards to that last post, but then I remembered how slapdash the actual ending to System Shock 2 was, and had to back away in shame.

SHODAN making a beeline for Earth really sounds like the most likely thing that she would do to be honest.
Remember that it was Tommy who said that they were "turning the shuttle around" after they received the message sent by Goggles. That would probably explain why SHODAN choose that moment to reveal herself as residing within Rebecca - to keep that from happening and continue the shuttles course for Earth.
Neutralise Tommy, pose as a human saying that he was infected - bear in mind people on Earth know absolutely nothing about the Many and how they function - and hop into a terminal on Earth at the soonest possible opportunity.

SHODAN on Earth is a terrible idea. The Shock games are founded on isolating both the player, and the threat. Recall how much of SS1 you spent preventing SHODAN from reaching Earth. If SHODAN did reach Earth, the resulting game would be more like Half-Life 2 than System Shock.
A deep space colony would work well though.

The thing I would like to see in a 3rd Shock is Cyber-Space...hey...maybe place some of the action in cyber space...in shodans memory...in googles memorie of from the VB...but who will be the player...a construct?:) or shodan herself maybe ?:)...heh...It's hard to say realy. I don't even know if it's a good idea to make a 3rd one...It would be hell of a work for the creators to please us fans...mm..fanatics...:P :)

But the shuttle would take thousands, maybe millions of years to reach Earth, because I really doubt that a simple shuttle has FTL traveling capabilities. But hey, that never stopped Beta Grove either. :D

I'm also glad that the aliens from the film series of the same name never reached there too since so much energy had been expended by the characters to keep that from being the case. Many fans felt insulted that a teaser trailer for Alien3 seemed to promise a battle on Earth, but instead were left with a viciously gritty dump on a distant world (which I highly appreciate in hindsight :) ).
Also, a theme which I noticed that Alien and System Shock 2 shared is that both have two 'evil' antagonists: A somewhat biological entity craving to merely replicate and an artificial intelligence who caused the mess, using deception over the humans stuck in the middle to achieve their goal.

I doubt we'll ever get a System Shock 3, but I would love a game scenario along these lines.
You are an Investigator on a small remote colony investigating what seem to be minor problems in the colony. Slowly as you delve into each issue, you begin to put together a bigger picture. It might take you a little while or it might take ages, depending on how and which issues you investigate, but eventually you come to the realisation that there is a rogue AI in the colony control systems. The AI is purposely keeping itself hidden, leaving mis-direction and false clues throughout to put you off the scent. It is building up it's power base until it has enough to take over the colony.
Eventually, you will have enough info to raise your concerns to the ruling body of the colony. They may or may not act upon the information, depending on how much proof you have or how serious the issues are becomming.
When they do finally decide to act, you will then be 'upgraded' with a Cybernetic module and weaponry which will be the only way to combat this rogue AI. At which point, the AI unleashes it's full abilities and turns all the machines/robots/systems against you and the remaining colonists in full force.
This allows different paths through the storyline, from one extreme to the other:
You could find enough proof straight away, convince the council to act and battle against the AI when it's very weak and hasn't had much time to consolidate.
or
You could take ages to find enough proof and struggle to convince the council, by which time the AI is very strong and almost impossible to beat.
Somewhere between the two extremes would be a normal game, but it would be excellent if some dynamic level of difficulty could result in the AI doing more misdirection the closer you get to the truth.
This isn't a spec for SS3, it's just an idea of a kind of game I would love. If you wanted to go down the SS3 route, the escape pod from SS2 could have landed near the colony and Rebecca got accepted into the hierarchy and is now 'assisting' Shodan in recovering her power as a member of the council. However, I think if the game was SS3 it would take a lot of the suspense out of the game, as players would know early on that Shodan would be the cause of all the problems.
