Would "the ending sucks" be good trivia? :P

No, because it's Original Research!

ZB, a guy called (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=123883#post123883) MSG said here that 1138 was a reference thought up by Mike Ryan.
That's the same Ryan I guess that you got the SHODAN render from. Maybe you could ask him to pop in here and state that 1138 was indeed a reference to THX1138 and then we can cite his post on Wikipedia.
(Those Wikipedants are giving me a headache.)

Unfortunately, message board posts don't count as "published" data. And I certainly can't blame them for that. Forums tend to be ephemeral things.

Well Tani seemingly accepted my link to Michael Ryan's TTLG post about the the Dojo level as a citation for SHODAN being a reference to the martial arts rang.
That was what I based my thought on.

Yeah, he really shouldn't have. Just like Drat shouldn't have incorporated my link to QT3 into the Nurse Bloome part of the article. I was reviewing the discussion archives on the Original Research article, and it's specifically mentioned in there that forum links aren't acceptable.
I consider it more absurd that there would be a need to cite something like the dojo level to prove that "SHODAN" isn't just coincidentally also a martial arts rank. It just seems self-evident.
Have you looked at the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1138_(number)) 1138 article? Dozens of bits of information, and
not a single reference. And noone seems to have a problem with it. That article doesn't even have a discussion page!

The trick with Wikipedia is that you can't just say "but 'insert page name here' isn't following the rules! Why should we have to here?". I've seen that argument so many times, especially from people trying to plug their website that has five forum users, or some machinima that's coming out in six months. It's rather a reason that 'insert page name here' should be fixed to follow the rules. Or at least tagged appropriately to bring attention to it.
My problem with the whole martial arts thing is that the info from Michael Ryan seems to concern System Shock 2 , not the first game (please correct me if I'm wrong). Did he work on SS1? Did the Japanese developer idea stem from some unused (but still arguably canonical) background info from SS1? If so, then say so!

You've got it backwards. The argument is that 'insert page here' *IS* following the rules.

Since I inserted that information into an article about SS2 I fail to see your point.

I suppose I ought to go look up what you guys are talking about.
