Realtek 3DSoundBack! does horrible EAX, it totally breaks the sound in Thief 2 (and presumably SS2 as well) - at least it did when I tried it.
I've heard of people having good results with ALchemy, but that needs a Creative sound card.
However, an upcoming development is likely to also solve this issue.

I did not notice a difference at all in SS2. But since i am such a SS2 whore i actually ordered a creative card for 80 bucks worth for it to work. Might even get an SSD to install a new Windows XP partition. It really annoys me when these old titles not works as intended.
Now, i downloaded the new Realtek drivers for Windows 7 from 2011 which makes the sound good in my ears. But still i can have no rest before i get Hardware Acceleration and EAX. Even if i already have it and cant notice the difference.

Never played SS2 before but a HUGE Thief fan. Found my oold copy of SS2 and tried installing. It would not install. My system is a Pentium i5 processor.
Used the ntforce thing and it installed.
Then it crashed randomly in the basic training room. I found some help in a forum to go into the task manager after it is running and right click on the sshock files and Set affinity to only use one of the processors instead of all four.
That seemed to work and I got thru both the beginning and advanced training.
I did as the forum suggested to set this up permantnetly by using a processor.bat file and downloading that imagesys file.
NOW when I finished the advanced training mission and went into ANY of the rooms to choose my profession (Navy, Marines, OSA), the sound completely cut out and all was silent. If let me pick subsequent rooms and I saw all the stuff. As soon as I finished the year 3 room, the game crashed again. Incidently this sound problem happened BEFORE I did the imagesys thing as well so I don't think that's it. I will only add that once I enter one of the branch rooms (Marines, Navy, OSA), the screen went black for a few seconds before I actually saw the load screen into the next area.
help? I feel like I"m ALMOST there...

Hey you guys maybe you can help me with the situation I'm facing.
Installed ss2 on XP PRO , INTEL P4 , GG 8800GTX, 2GB RAM.
Game was freezing at the tutorial(training) procedure.
Installed ss2tool and everything looked ok, game running smootly!
Thing is that I can't collect items that are inside crates or bodies, etc, and also I can't move items inside my inventory.
I mean, I open like a crate and inside is let's a bag of chips, but when I'm left clicking on it cannot move it to my inventory.
Any suggestions?
Never mind, found out the solution, by reading previous posts.

DarkPrince, just out of curiosity, why did you ask this in SS2 on Win7 thread, having installed the game on a XP system?
