System Shock 2 Multiplayer Problems

Hi, I just recently got System Shock 2 and I've been anxious to play the game on coop with my friends. I installed Kolya's SS2Tool, including the DirectPlay8 wrapper, and I'm trying to play the game over hamachi with my friend. I've set the device priority such that Hamachi is the primary network device, and SS2 recognizes my Hamachi IP as my host IP. However, even though my friend is connected to my hamachi network, he is unable to join. He has installed the patch exactly as I have, and everything should work according to the guides I've read. I run Windows Vista 32 bit and run the game in XP Compatibility mode, as an administrator, yet he is unable to connect to my game, despite my firewall being disabled and all necessary ports being forwarded. My other friend, who runs vista as well, can connect without problems, however. So is this a problem with the fact that one person runs XP and the rest run vista? This is driving us insane, we really just want to play the game together, please help.

Sounds like for some people, mixing XP and Vista with Hamachi just doesn't work. Of note is (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3981664&postcount=8) this chap who said when the Xp machine used an old version of Hamachi everything works fine, and (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4838840&postcount=28) the last post which offered an alternative to Hamachi which works.
