Like Kolya said, all you have to do is to use the search function to find the answer to your question. This has come up many times already.
Since I'm in a good mood: just edit your cam.cfg file and replace the resolution for the one you want to use, e.g.:
game_screen_size 1280 1024

This only works for 1280 x 1024 and 1600 x 1200, other resolutions like widescreen ones won't work.

Back in '99 I was happy it was running so-so on 800x600. Good days. :p
But I prefer pumping up anti-aliasing instead, as in 1280 x 1024 the HUD elements and inventory are too small on my 17''.
