It is fun to watch you play Bioshock, these graphically advanced games are just too much for my poor eyesight and seeing the game played through someone else's eyes is popcorn worthy.

And I knew you would fall in love with the laser pistol, how awesome is its unlimited supply of ammo and high power of the overcharge shots? Keep an eye on its condition though, it degrades faster if you use regular shots on enemies that survive more than 1 shot. Don't let it break before you can maintain it.

Do upgrade maintenance though, since you're going energy, maintenance is ideal because it increases the amount of energy you can store in energy weapons as well as making your maintenance tools more effective.
