Hi,
Now SS2 is one of the best games I have ever played along with Bioshock. When the coop patch came out for SS2 then the game became the finished article in my eyes, the game still looks and sounds good today! It is such a shame that all my Bioshock friends mostly on the Xbox can't experience this game and what with so many old games being ported over to the Xbox Live Arcade section to be download for a small fee, this would be a instant hit!
I know it will never happen and have no idea why I am posting this, but what an opportunity espeacially with the 4 player coop, as coop modes in games are the way forward (leaf 4 Dead, CoD5 etc).
Now I feel better I have said that.

The problem would be converting the inventory system and shoot/use modes to the xbox. I haven't played a console RPG yet with a decent inventory interface, except maybe Arx Fatalis (the demo anyway). Even if it were ported though, the percentage of people that would buy it would unfortunatly be small. Because, you know, the average 360 gamer can't go more than 1 minute without blowing something up.

This made me laugh for some reason. Weird.

Perhaps yourself along with some of us still hold out hope [slim as it may be] for more System Shock.

Well, let's see what the producer of SS2 thinks about that...
Quote Posted by Ken Levine
It was a real distraction. There are a number of people who really enjoyed it but the amount of time versus the amount of reward for that versus what we could have done on the rest of the game... I don't think it was a win. The single player game would have been much, much, much more stronger if we had that time back.
So it's people like YOU who are the problem.

ZylonBane he he you are so silly you make me laugh :cheeky:. It would be hard to make the single player even better, unless of course you are one of the developers and know all the work that went into it.
I've been playing the 4 player coop mode for years with many different players, so WE don't consider it a waste of time like YOU. So many people have never heard of this game as the gaming market is now monopolized by consoles, PC gaming is becoming less and less (look at the shelf space in the stores) I merely suggested the game deserves being rejuventated.

You might want to try re-reading my post.

Why? It's just a comment from you and single quote from another person.

Because you missed his point.
And because Ken Levine's perspective should hold a fair amount of weight, since he's SS2's lead designer and all.
While I do see co-op as a nice little bonus in SS2, I agree that there is a lot of improvement that could have been made to the game had multiplayer not been added. All you have to do is think about the latter portion of the game; it was too rushed and linear.
As far as rejuvenating SS2 goes, it'd be nice, but I can't imagine it ever happening on the PC, much less on a console.

Yeah, but having said that the people who worked on multiplayer would not typically be the people who would be working on improving the last few levels- programmers were not typically level designers as well. I don't think there's too much programming wise which was wrong was SS2.

For some reason I'm more inclined to believe Ken Levine's opinion here.
You have to remember that Irrational was a small company, which typically means a lot of people performing tasks outside their job descriptions, pitching in where help is needed. With specific regard to multiplayer, implementing that sort of thing has a huge QA impact (as hinted at in the Gamasutra postmortem).
