I recently got myself a copy of SS2 and was curious to know how many languages the game is available in. The thief series generally have decent translations, so what about SS2?

Indeed it is. For example SHODAN's German voice is much deeper and sounds more menacing imo. On the other hand a few SFX that were timed to coincide with certain keywords in the English version are placed arbitrarily in the German version and therefor lose a lot of their impact. While I'm sure the post-production was done at Irrational I'm also quite sure that Eric Brosius doesn't understand German. And the German protocol droid is a bit too funny.
It's still a great localization especially since they bothered to translate every single language dependent texture.

Was there an unofficial Russian translation? Where did the Russian speech in this fanmix theme come from? Was it just done for the theme?

I would presume most Slavic speaking persons could understand Russian language written or spoken.
