If they don't play it's a codec issue of some sort. Others you have may be conflicting. You may want to peruse a number of the threads around here and see how to go about removing ones that might be affecting Dark Engine games. ffdshow is a good place to start, making sure it's set to allow passthrough of the shock2.exe executable.

Bink was released the same year as SS2: 1999
Interestingly Sean Barrett is working for them now who also worked at LG.

Like I said above, there are plenty of threads around here that deal with the subject so I recommend doing a search. If it was me I would a) uninstall any other codecs you have and b) make sure the movies run outside of SS2. Also make sure you're working off a fresh boot of the system. I've noticed when I tend to watch other types of movies, it can screw up the ones for SS2 and Thief 1 and 2 via its internal player until I reboot.
Ultimately the movies aren't that important. Only for the intro (two of them) and the end of the game. The only other ones it shows are three mini videos of a shuttle flying around during character creation.

i can play them out of game.
ok screw the cutscenes. my game will not play. it freezes when i hit new game. it loads, and then it freezes at a black screen
