Well that's why Team SCP is on the job.
I should have specified: no changes warranting a remake that could be an improvement. I can think of a few changes that would make the experience better in exceedingly trivial ways (e.g. replacing the two-state buttons for elevators in the Engineering Deck Cargo Bays with three level select buttons), but they are so minor that I can't imagine somebody would have a worse opinion of the game because of them.
To my mind, there is only one reason to remake a masterpiece: to faithfully add polish. The work you and the SCP team do already has this niche covered perfectly.

For me, fixing the multiplayer would already be worth it, as I've never been able to get it to work in even a remotely stable state.
Though, I actually wouldn't mind seeing everything from the Rickenbacker onward completely revamped. It always feels like a letdown to an otherwise great game and is the major reason why I rate the first game higher. But let's see what they have in mind first.

Happy Anniversary to the game that brought me to TTLG. :)

yeah, MP and console ports would be two valid reasons, if they can spare the manpower for doing a SS2 KEX port (assuming that's what they'll be doing) - not a coder, but replicating Dark accurately enough to at least run vanilla is not going to be a trivial task.
as for enhancing the resources like object and world textures, there already are mods that do that, and if they were to integrate those (or something equivalent) into the base (EE) build, the purists and vanilla people would chew their heads off. same goes for editing the levels and gamesys (replicating SCP, basically), so don't know - feels like there really isn't anything that could be improved in this particular field that wouldn't be just reinventing the wheel.

I hope porting the game to KEX would allow to implement the VR capability.
But I do really hope they will collaborate with the community to make ss2/newdark mods compatible or add those thousands fixes and adjustments to the Enhanced game.

A massive happy anniversary to System Shock 2, one of my all time favorite games of all time.
In honor of that, I think I'll do my next game streaming of that game (assuming it works in Streamlabs).

There's an article on Rock Paper Shotgun that makes it clear it'll be Kex engine, but it looks like they'll also be open sourcing the original:

So that's good news for everyone regardless of how the Kex version comes out.
