Yes folks, thats what I'm working on next.
There is an emulator called dosbox. It allows old dos games to run on your xbox....soooo guess what the FIRST game I thought of was?!?!
If you guessed Commander Keen, eh....no. Shock 1!
Well, I tinkered with it and found out it won't run batch files....so the install wasnt very successful from the cd. So next option is to FTP the files over from a good install on a pc, to the xbox, and try to run it then.....
Once I get it working I'll figure out a good thumbstick layout, and I'll create an ISO of the setup for you to use on your modded xbox, if you have dosbox installed on it.
*thumbs up*
(And if you don't have a modded xbox, I do sell and mod xboxes, if you wish to purchase one)

There's just something criminal about the idea of System Shock 1 running on an Xbox . . .

On a slightly more serious note: Why don't you use SystemShock-Portable? It doesn't need an installation and it works without batch files.

Yeah - combine SS1 portable with joy2key and SS1 is running! Anyone have any ideas how to set the controls to work with one of those gargantuan pads?

I was going to say something similar but I didn't want to start a "HAY GUYZ WHICH IS BETTER XBOX OR..." flamewar.

I think I will do that, I'll grab a copy of that and try it tomorrow and let you know how far I get.
Just to let you know though, this is DOS only. There is NO windows enviroment on it, only DOS. So unless it relys on absolutely no Windows functions, then its perfect. :thumb:

I tried running UFO: Enemy Unknown on my X-Box. It ran quite happily if you discount the speed issue. Note that the game is run via a batch file, too.
But getting back to the speed thing, I could've timed the frame rate with my watch. SS1 is a "heavy duty" game by comparison. I'd hate to think how badly that would run on the X-Box's 733mhz CPU. DosBox is a wonderful program, but let's face it, it's an emulator.
A much better option would be a port. Hackers have created an IDE for the X-Box, or so I gather, and it's allowed games such as Transport Tycoon, StepMania, Exult, and even Quake III to be compiled for the console. If there is source code available for SystemShock-Portable, then perhaps a re-write of that would be the best project to go for.

SS-Portable is just a differently packaged SS1. Unfortunately the sourcecode for this is considered lost atm.

So are you saying that you have run SS1 on your xbox? :weird:
