My general plan of attack for this has been to avoid adding detail for the sake of it. I've seen others that add detail that looks nothing like the original game. It feels odd looking at the old textures and levels that's been augmented with completely different art styles.
As far as the panel goes, it's fully animated in-game but isn't interactive. The lighting is causing the "blue" effect you speak of. I probably should desaturate it a bit. This is moving slowly but surely. I generally don't give up on projects even if they're nothing more than environmental tinkering.

I'm still here. I'll be busy with other 3D modeling projects for a little while, so here's the last bit of progress I've made so far:

Changes so far:
Medical door was added in, but isn't operating yet. Will get it working ASAP.
Random rust shader dependent upon the relative world position of the object was changed, and the rust is tiling a lot smaller so it looks more like rust and less like big reddish blobs.
Lights were changed - desaturated by 60%, same brightness.

Looks very good so far.
When it comes to System Shock 1 (which I am currently playing):Personally I am bothered a bit by the pre-3D era technology (before 1997) games. This is a good project for people like me.
Suggestion:
Consider doing some more (minimal) retouching to modernize some of the artwork which looks dated.

I like the solidity and depth of the recreation, without betraying the original; the idea of just exploring the corridor is exciting. SS1 is fantastic.

Thanks guys. When I get more time to work, I'll play with the designs some more - I was working on the storage doors when I had to take a break from working to do my project for my second interview.

Nice pictures I see here, keep at it. Absolutely love System Shock 1.

Thanks Terra. I feel bad because it looks like I'm not doing anything, but the work for my second interview takes priority right now. I'll keep going. ;-)

I would love to play SS1 on an updated engine. This stuff is really looking nice.
As mentioned before, other levels have been made before. The real challenge would be using all this art and making a complete working copy of the original. That's no small feat though. :erm:

Nice looking level so far, though I have seen SO MANY medical level remakes over the last decade its not funny. The general flow is that the project is announced, textures and occasionally a few decorative models get added in, and then the project drops off the face of the earth.
Add in some weapons and enemies please. Textures and decorative items are the easy part as have been evidenced by previous projects.

I'm not a character modeler, I'm an environment artist. I could model the characters but they wouldn't be as good as they would if a professional character modeler made them.
I disagree that textures and environmental design are easy. If they were easy, the whole station would've been rebuilt by now. Truth be told, I put this project on a backburner while I do other things. I would like to get back to working on it again but it'll be a while - if I want to push this farther I'm going to need to upgrade my computer so it stops slowing down when I try to run UDK, Max, Photoshop, and Mudbox.
