I'm running Windows x64, making Mok's patch a no-go (since it's 16-bit and not runnable under DOSBox). OK performance at 1024x768 (says it's 1280x1024 but it ain't) with original CDSHOCK.EXE and DOSBox 0.65 though.

Ok. Last time I tried this hi-res thing on ss1 I got it to work. Now after a year I tried it again and got it to work. Only this time my mouse&keyboard have problems.
If I change the resolution to higher than 640x480 my mouse and keyboard wont do anything (alt plus tab works).
Cursor moves on the screen but if I try to press anything nothing happens. Music plays fine and graphics look good but I can't play.
Any Ideas?

Forget it. Seems to work now. Don't know why.

I have mucked around so much with my SS1 to get it working at all, then getting it working in 640x480 and now finally getting it working in 1024x768, I can't say for certain this is a quicker way to go, but if you go to
(

and download the portable v6 and associated files (fixed cdshock.exe, high res packs, etc) and follow the instructions on that one page and you should be good to go. having all the links and instructions on one page really helps!
I will tell you this, as this is how it works on my setup, that I get 1024x768 only by starting the game with the vesa.exe program that ends up residing in the Shock folder that portable v6 creates! In the graphics options I only have the 1024x768 option to choose, I have no others, but I am fine with that of course! By using Vesa my mouse speed is okay and everything works absolutely perfectly!
Although it's 2 years later, I want to thank all the guys on this thread that wrote code or wrote utilities or gave links to helpful obscure utilities, etc! It was a very entertaining read and some of you guys are way funny - and good to see a friendly thread too!
So here we are in August 2007, and I don't know where the enchantman and toxin's are, but just to know your advice is still be read and your help is still helping people play this great game the best way it can be! Thank you. Thank you lots!

You don't need a fixed cdshock.exe. You only need the game (SYSTEMSHOCK_Portable_v0.6.exe) and the high resolution pack you want (ResPack1024x768_v0.6.exe).
