I'm not blind, I swear! Just under-caffienated.
Well, surprise, surprise. It didn't work for me either, same problems as before. :( Restoring the default settings worked, though. :)

Aaaagh.
The only way I can explain this is "nVidia cards don't support 256-color VESA modes other than 0x0100 and 0x0101", but that's clearly insane. Now, I can believe it of nV, but I'm horribly biased.
I vote for descending on nVHQ with fire and the wrench.

Don't go for mass murder just yet. Enchantermon and I have the same card, so there's an off chance it's just a problem with our specific model. :erm:

What happens if you tell the patcher to return it to defaults?
It returns to normal.

(If it still doesn't work, post the md5sum and, if possible, the binary diffs against the original CDSHOCK.EXE)
Um.....how exactly would I get at this information?

Maybe you should get in touch with one of their techies and see what they think.

Well, Nameless_Voice has a 4200 and it didn't work for him, so it's not the specific model that we have.....maybe just all GeForces? Or all GeForce 4's, even?

You never know. Maybe the thread title should get another edit, add something like 'NVIDIA testers needed'? Might help, who knows? :erm:

I've had another idea.
Try mapping 640x400 to 640x480, and vice versa.
If that works, it's an issue with the card.
If that doesn't work, it's an issue with the patch that ATI cards can compensate for but nV cards can't.

I now know that System Shock is even more awesome in 1280*1024. The mouse is still slow though, even on the highest mouse speed setting in Windows.
ToxicFrog on 28/9/2005 at 15:06
The mouse was never designed for that much pure awesome. ;)
If you're on NT, though, you might be able to correct for that with mouse2kv.

It worked. :erg: *shakes a fist at computer* Sony should be sending back my laptop (with an ATI card) soon, it's been gone a month, so I guess I'll be able to see the high-res version soon. I hope.
