Hi there, I recently completed System Shock 1 but there's one area that I couldn't enter.
I'm on Level 8, I've already been to cyberspace and opened the door to the prison cells. However, the prison cells themselves are still locked. Guides were unhelpful, as was the search function. I'd like to get in there because there are some dermal patches lying around. (Not that I need them, I just want them. :p)
So yeah, I hope you can help me so that I can move on to System Shock 2. Thanks in advance. :)

It's been far too long since I played the original but from memory there's either a way of unlocking them within the prison cell area itself or you can do it after navigating a few gravshafts nearby.

As far as I remember, and if you're talking about the several holding cells inside the middle room in that area, I think I could never find a way of opening some of them.

Okay, I've searched the prison area and the area around it up and down without finding a button or anything. I guess when even experienced players don't know how to get in there I don't really have a chance of finding anything. I'll just skip those patches. Still, thank you both for your replies. ;)

If you're desperate to get in there then you could do it by setting mission to 0 in a new game - that will allow you to open all doors but obviously isn't recommended for the first time playing.

Thanks, I didn't know that. However, I am not that desperate. :p

If I remember right, they should open when you disengage some 'military computer cyberspace lock' (or something like that) in cyberspace. However there was a bug in floppy version, so you could open these doors only if you're playing CD version of the game.

Unfortunately the cyberspace lock only opens the room where the cells are, not the actual cells themselves.

Yes, you're right. That cyberspace lock only controls the entrance to the room where the cells are (and to the other rooms in that area).
The most vivid memory I have of that room is when, on one of my very first playthroughs, I got stuck behind that red force wall and panicked because I couldn't find a way out of there :p

Could you upload your save file? I will try to figure it out and post a screenshot for you.
