I'm trying to install System Shock, but I'm halted at Step 1 - copying the CD to the hard drive for mounting in DOSBox. It mostly goes well, but there are four files that will not copy - copying just gives an error message:
HD\SOUND\GENMIDI\INI-MT.XMI
HD\SOUND\GENMIDI\INI-SC.XMI
HD\SOUND\SBLASTER\INI-MT.XMI
HD\SOUND\SBLASTER\INI-SC.XMI
These files show up in XP's Explorer (and Command Prompt), sized at small but existant sizes of 1-2k, but nothing happens when I right-click on them in Explorer, and the Command Prompt tells me they're non-existant when I try to do actually do something with them (e.g. the "type" command). I suspect CD damage. There does appear to be some minor specks/dents towards the outside of the disk that repeated washing will not get off, but it does seem odd that the same file names in both folders would be the ones effected.
So, first question: Is this just my CD, or is this actually an oddity of the System Shock CD?
Second question: Do I need these files?
Third question: If I do need them, would someone be kind enough to upload them or e-mail them to me? (PM me for an address if you can e-mail.)

Best idea is to use SSP, as voodoo said. It's a lot easier than trying to run SS1 in DosBox yourself.
This does sound like CD damage, though.

if I remember correctly,I had the same problem when I tried to compile my cd version to run under xp (some files refusing to copy),so this may be some software issue after all..anyway,its not really worth figuring out,as SPP contains everything you need in one neat package (btw, thans for reminding me,I have started to play it again, nothing better than a nice session of sshock when you have a stupid flu :cheeky:)...
