Hello.
I'm an industrious Steam-user :)
And I, the other day, found out about System Shock.
Now I'm so curious about the game that i can't bare it!
I know that there is this (
http://www.gameswarehouse.com.au/longpage.asp?gameid=2950) Shop in Australia that sells a nice cd with the packaging, properly
papers and all that pretty stuff... That I #!"&€! always seem to loose! :tsktsk:
Soo..
Why not publish it on Steam?
There are a few free games in the category on steam. Witch System Shock 1 would nicely fit into.
Ooor it could be bundled with System Shock 2 that could be purchased for about uhm.. 10Euro? or so...
So that clumsy ass idiots like my self can enjoy the game in all eternity. Downloading it again and again.
Now that steam is coming to Mac.
The mac version could also be there... Now wouldn't that be something? :cheeky:

We're a fansite forum, Dawda. We're not Electronic Arts.
System Shock on Steam would be pretty cool, but we'd be more likely to see it on Gog.com.

And even that isn't very likely.

I doubt, in my heart of hearts, that SS2 is getting a mac port any time soon.
Edit - Why did you tag this thread with the word free?

Wow, the subject title got me very excited. I've been waiting for System Shock and System Shock 2 to show up on Steam for ages. Imagine, full Windows 7, Vista, XP compatibility without a single tweak. I sure hope Electronic Arts puts this on there one day!

More than a single tweak, I fear. SS1 can run in a Virtual Machine, but there are no consumer-grade VMs that can run SS2 in its full glory - even tweaks can only take us so far.
It would need a partial source rewrite as well as recompression of movies and textures*. I can't imagine EA willing to go through that for such a cult game, and that's assuming they kept the Dark source.
*Conjecture based on my own efforts with XP/V/7/Linux - for more accurate pessimism you should probably consult ZB.

SS1 had a custom engine; Dark didn't even exist back then.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't DosBox run SS1 well on the highest original resolution? This obviously doesn't take resolution hacks into account, but they wouldn't be sold with a Steam version anyway.
