That Explorer does look pretty great. I wonder, though, how much I would actually use all of the Hydrasynth's wave-mangling features. That sort of thing seems better suited to a single voice, where there's less chance it'll get muddy. I waver between wanting as many options as possible and just having a core featureset with a really great basic sound. Although I suppose if you were industrious the Hydrasynth could probably do both jobs. Still kinda leaning toward the Take 5 (someday), but I'd like to play one in person.

I have similar reservations about Hydrasynth. I was poised to buy the module when it came out, but couldn't quite make myself do it.
I was thinking that yeah - being able to separately pulse-width modulate different segments of a wave is amazing, but other than to create a cool demo patch, how would I really use it?
Something keeps me intrigued though.

And surprisingly (suspiciously?) cheap based on the estimated prices for the oscillator and the function generator (around $200 USD).

I am kind of wondering if it might make sense for me to replace my Prophet 6 with one of these:

If I had a P5 or P6 I don't think I'd bother. Unless you really need that tiny bit of extra modulation.
Those Buchla 200 reissues look amazing. I'll have to keep an eye out for that Source Of Uncertainty module.

The spiritual successor to the old Waldorf Microwave sounds so good:

There's something about the PPG waves through that filter that hits a sweet spot for me. If they ever release a keyboard version I'm snagging it and the Hydra will get the boot.

I use a controller keyboard for most of my playing once I have patched dialled in, so swapping olut the P6 for the Take 5 might make sense to reduce footprint a bit and free up some cashmoney for something else.
Not a decision I'd make rashly though.
I guess this is becoming the TTLG Superbooth thread.
This just made the Super 6 a very intriguing possibility for me (space is tight): (

Always, (

I’ve seen lots of comments saying the Take 5 doesn’t sound as good as the P5 or 6. Truthfully I haven’t spent much time around any of these instruments, and I’m not really hearing a lot of difference,so I’m curious what you think. With the Minilogue, for example, I always thought “this sounds as good as any poly synth” and over time realized that over time it actually doesn’t, in ways that I couldn’t articulate at the time (still love it tho!) I don’t want to buy a Take 5 and then realize I should’ve just saved up and bit the bullet for the P5 or P6.
