Then I watched this:

And it makes me think I've been going about Strega all wrong. The delay isn't a delay; it's a timbre control and should be treated as such.

I guess I'll post this here rather than the music creation thread. I've released a new ambient track. My 2021 plan is to try smaller, more regular releases. Here's the first one, a tribute to my poor kitty, who died a year ago yesterday.

Nice

That's really nice.
I've added it on Spotify.

DOUBLE POST!
This looks great (if a little fiddly).

Thanks, guys.
Man, that Plinky is just an ambient record in a box, isn’t it.

Somebody is making a (
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1577620/The_Signal_State/) Zach-like game out of modular synthesis, as in it gives you input signals and you have to make a patch that produces the right output signal (if I understand the promo video right). I think it might be a good way to learn a few things.

Spent ages noodling with modular stuff last night and got into a nice sonic space, hit record and fiddled with knobs for around 35 minutes.
(
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wc9qyy08qlvfbq1/20210629-Dark_noisy.mp3?dl=0) THIS IS THAT
I've had it on loop today as background"Music" while I work. Will probably pillage the nice bits to use in some more fleshed out tracks.
Basical signal path:
Plaits (modulated by Pamela's New Workout) > Behringer Moog LPF clone or Make Noise Viol Ruina (switched between them half way through - modulated by S&H with lag processing) > MI Beads (granule pitch sequenced by MI Marbles)
Lots of manual tweaking of various parameters throughout.
Great thing about Beads is that you can hit Freeze, turn the signal mix all the way to Wet and then change over things like filter / Plaits synthesis model, then turna back to 50% wet and turn freeze off, and no one is the wiser. The only 2 real dropouts were when I switched the audio quality mode on Beads.

That's me ever since I starting using modular.
My workflow has gone from "Maybe start with piano or guitar, get a mood, capture a basic section or two, then think about getting some drums in" to "oooh blinking lights and cables fucking everywhere until 2am".
I will say though, literally anything AT ALL sounds better when put through a moog ladder filter, even a Behringer knock-off.
