Clearly, this entirely invalidates the fight for civil liberties in the United States, and justifies every retarded stereotype that the right wing throws at the ACLU.

What is the stereotype here? The ACLU opposes stupid kneejerk laws supposedly to protect kids from child molesters so they must actually be child molesters?
They are against anti-gay legislation so they must actually be gay and we all know gays secretly will try to fuck anything?
Some heady brew combining these elements?

I was about to say, "Yeah, thank god I reported all those Catholic priests as child molesters on general principle" -- but then I realized that, given that there actually is a problem with the Catholic church hierarchy and child molestation, even that would be granting the original post too much legitimacy.

It was just a few months ago that Ted (?) Haggard, one of the primary leaders in the evangelical movement, confessed to having an on-going gay affair. He was one of the most outspoken and key figures in the conservative war against gay rights.
Possibly a good time for some Sting lyrics:
You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my faith in the holy church
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse
Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world,
You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV,
You could say I lost my belief in the politicians,
They all seem like, game show hosts to me...

He didn't exactly volunteer this information, he was outed by the male prostitute he'd been hiring regularly for 3 years, who also indicated Haggard was fond of meth.

That's an interesting read although with a definition of "nationalism" as wide as his Orwell could have invented another term that doesn't have that ring of "nation" and includes the general biased tunnel view he seems to speak of. I haven't read all of the article yet though.
