Suppression Fire.... - by Anarkos

In DX1, if you shot at a guard, he'd turn, look at you, and start shooting. He might crouch and run around. If you injure him, he may run away. That's hardly realistic.
I want to be able to suppress guards. Say there's an innocent NYPD riot cop near a building I need to enter. If I try to enter, he'll come after me. However, I don't want to kill him, and as I am playing as a heavingly tooled up commando, I can't dispose of him non-lethally. So, I draw my SMG, ineffective at this range, and strafe past him wildly spraying around him. He's not hurt or killed, but is scared, and ducks/dives for cover, letting me enter the building unobstructed.
I want a near miss to suppress guards. If you miss with your sniper rifle, I don' want the target to pivot towards me and shoot. I want him to duck for cover, work out where I am [if I'm using an unsilenced weapon and in sight] then come out and shoot back; or call for backup.

Agreed. The new AI system has been much-trumpeted to help sneaky players, what with sound and shadows and so on. Hopefully the AI will also be massively improved for Action-movie players. Don't forget about us, Ion Storm!
