Hell if we are allowed threads about spiderman, the xmen and all that geeky comic book rubbish then by zod I think there should be a superman returns thread discussing what people thought about the movie.
IMHO - It rocked.
Superman's return deed with the plane AND the space shuttle was brilliant - THAT is why the world needs superman! (to hell with your other so called “heros”)
It is also great to see a mature superhero that gets to the business of saving the world without all that unnecessary teen angst, or brooding about revenge for what happened in the past. He just sucks it up like a (super)man and gets on with what needs to be done! All this while also limiting the use of unnecessary though apparently fashionable quips. Fantastic use of old recordings for continuity purposes also it is great to be reward so for watching the first two movies before hand. Despite different actors they are still the same characters from the first two movies (and the time difference is forgotten!
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!
One criticism is that they could have had more of an action montage when superman decided to fly back to metropolis instead of saving Lois
Superman with a kid!!! - can't wait for the sequel when the two are forced to fight!
Also ofcourse is nice scope for much deserved sequels. Lets get to see more Clark the next time round too!

Yes, I quite enjoyed it. Great choice for the lead.

Hmm. For some reason this one doesnt interest me. I quite enjoyed the "originals" when I first saw them, but unfortunately this one seems too overhyped and seems to me (at least from the trailers) that it's just a rehash of the original storyline, but this time everyone knows superman will save the day, and he has a
kid
.
Also, interestingly: Superman Returns. Israel decides to bomb Lebanon. Coincidence?
(probably not, but ooh! political twist!)
I'll wait for the dvd thanks. Unless someone manages to sway my opinion over to seeing it at the cinema.

and he has a kid. How is it a rehash of the original story? It is set six years after; sure, Luther is after land, but in the films he has always been after land. It is a sequel with appropriate characters and story. Also, I definately did n't know about the SPOILER and was sucked into the movie's own revelation of the SPOILER - so please do everyone a favour wrap that thing up in SPOILER brackets before you SPOIL the film for someone!!! (I would have been majorily pissed to read your SPOIL before I went to cinema!!

it's in the trailer.

really? That was very stupid of them to do that... it is practically half the movie the is it/ isn't it aspect of the spoiler. There seems to be a lost art of making trailers that don't go and give away half the plot and all the punchlines!
thefonz on 22/7/2006 at 21:04
Yeah I know. Sorry if you got spoiled; but I agree - I was pretty fucked off when I watched the trailer and found out about it.
At least they dont spoil that
lex luthor loses in the end
cos that would REALLY suck.

I read your post after I saw the movie, so it was a good thing I missed it.

I thought it was a really good movie. And wow, longest credits I've ever seen at the end.
When I first started seeing commercials for it, I thought it looked very dull and uninteresting. After actually watching the movie though, I see that they really messed up trailer-wise. The movie itself is quite good, much better than what they portray in the trailers.
And now I understand why Cyclops was killed off so soon/quickly in X-Men.
