I have a irritatingly persistent problem on the Superfreighter level on Deus Ex, after i've scuttled the lower levels and the ship goes nuts i move to the upper decks and, as soon as i go through the mapchange, the game crashed, but the music continues to play.
I dont understand why it happens, ive played the game past this point at least 6 or 7 times over the last coupl'o'years, its never even crashed before!! (and it was on the same pc),
Ive tried it after defragging my pc, reinstalling deus ex, and it still happens......i also did a virusscan (godknowswhy), and none of them help it.
Anyone else have this problem? or know what the problem is or what the solution is?
Cheers,

I have no idea, but I have a fully-legal CD copy of DX, and I have the same save/load problem at that point. If you're running XP, try running it in compatibility mode, if that doesnt help, just try again and try again. I eventually had to do that, and one day it just didnt crash.
I actually instead of walking down the raised ramp, I jumped off the edge of the boat into the water and climbed up the dock on the ladder.
I think there's some kinda bug with that ramp that causes the game to crash, cause anytime I got near it or looked at it, the game would crash just like that, freeze screen but muzak still played.

Mine crashed once and it was because the system ran out of virtual memory...

This may sound really stupid, but try wiping the disks, incase there is any dust on it.
If that doesn't work, then try cheating to skip the the next map.

It can be many things, but I'd go what ACDenton said first, too. It happens. Some of my games have been in their casings all nice and quiet for long times and when reinstalling them, they've mysteriously developed some scraches or dirt on them. The easiest thing to do, if possible, is to try your copy on someone else's machine first, with save game folder copied, to see how it works there. If it's simply a faulty disk, you'll save yourself from lot of hassle when trying to 'fix' your game or your OS.

just jump off the deck and dont shift focus toward the ramp.

Yeah but I've never had any problems with that ramp, coming or going, so that can't be any common glitch. It must be something with game/OS software or the disk. Have you patched up your version? Or trying to install the game into a different location? That sometimes helps, too: go figure.

Thanks for all your help, i reinstalled deus ex while keeping all the savegames (except the one on the ship, thought it may be corrupted), and patched it to verson 1.012 (or something), it worked perfectly well now as im at Vandenburg :)
:D
