So, the nasty cheating **** that is Pompey (I'm entitled, I lived there for a while) - did you see Milan, 'I don't know, I haven't seen the replay' Baros' handball, blatant as you like - are playing Cardiff in the final. I really wish there was some kind of post-match penalty that could be awarded. I, despite the fact they're Welsh, will be supporting Cardiff. :D
And Massa won the Grand Prix and Hamilton seems to be like 90% of our sportspeople (except the cyclists who are marvellous), starts brilliantly and gives everyone totally unasked for and uncalled for hope for future glory, and then goes downhill rapidly. I blame the rags. Actually I think he's got balls and will be back kicking ass next round. But I may be wrong (called hedging your bets). And I still have hopes for whatsisname, Murray in tennis.

Alonso was very lucky that his acceleration problem didn't occur at any other point in the race.
And Hamilton "lives" in Switzerland now, so the British press should have no effect on him. I used " " because he probably spends more time in hotels.

Unfortunately I couldn't see this race because I wasn't home, but why did I immediately suspect that Alonso had to be involved?

I didn't know that, but it's the effect the press have on the public rather than the sportspeople that I get more wound up about. But it's purely a pet peeve.

Speaking of lower league matches, Setanta does a good line in Blue Square Premier matches. They're actually really entertaining, so I'd recommend them to anyone with Setanta.
I fully agree, I caught the Ebbsfleet game a week or two ago and was tickled to see them being televised.

Since there is a sports thread anyway...
At the weekend I was competing in the Modern Pentathlon Varsity match. (Shooting, 20 shots 10m air pistol, swimming 200m, fencing epee 2 hits, riding showjumping course of 12 fences, running 3km). Sadly the gentlemen's light blue team was defeated, but our ladies were victorious. The Oxford men do have an Olympic standard athlete though (which is blatantly cheating!)
I did manage to win the shooting with a score of 184/200 which netted me a tankard with a pistol for a handle to look after till next year. More importantly I got lucky in the riding draw and got a wonderful horse called Pinkie who jumped the whole course without throwing me off like last year!
This means I got a high enough score to get a half-blue, and am now entitled to buy a very overpriced and stupid looking blazer!
I only have some pictures from the dinner afterwards (NSFW), but if I get hold of some pictures from the competition I'll post them.

I'm impressed - everyone else I know (including me) just talks about it. Our family are firm Cambridge supporters for various reasons - though I had a brief flirtation with Oxford when I lived there for a few years. Didn't last long, the undergrads push you off the pavement - mere mortals shouldn't be sharing the same space.
And in other news, Liverpool and Chelsea carry on in the Champions League. No comment.

Best game I've ever been to :D

I'm not surprised, it was a fantastic game! Obviously the decisive penalty is controversial, given the similarity of the offence with the not given one last week (neither of them were penalties btw) but yeah, great to watch.
Congrats d0om! But why is it called a modern pentathlon when it sounds like training for the Napoleonic wars?
