I stopped watching cricket when ECB sold to Sky.
What's your take on the Cavendish controversy? The possibly partisan pundits on Eurosport reckon he was hard done by but it looked a bit naughty to me (a know-nothing layman).

Cink must feel like a cunt. Cink had BETTER feel like a cunt.

One of the downsides of the current era of professional sports is that you can't shake the feelings that true miracles just don't seem to happen any more. That was proof. I imagine that whoever runs the british open would have been willing every cink putt wide. Too bad.
On todays tour: Yay for real riding, that was exhilarating to watch. But at the same time I think the dream for lance ended today, along with every one else who isn't alberto contador. Everyone who says that lance was riding defensive to help contador is a fool, anyone who has won 7 times would have gone with him if he could, lance just looked cooked by the end of the climb. Not that there's anything wrong with that at this stage, people just seem to have gotten ahead of themselves. Just waiting for Contador to get kicked out again for doping, and the tour to spiral into controversy.

I caught the tail-end and the play-off and although I haven't been watching this, I was really sorry Watson missed it - what a nice bloke! Really gracious.
And while we're on the subject of missing balls - guys, look after (

I'm not happy about yesterday's play at Lord's. 2 wickets that shouldn't have been given and 1 dubious one which I've seen a dozen times now in replay and still can't make my mind up about. And 2 that were definite. There were 2 that weren't given that should have been and it evens it up slightly but even so. I hope that today is a little less iffy.

I don't see why. If you're honourable, you hold your hand up. If you're not, you don't. I can't see that it matters which sport it is.
Because you'd be letting your teammates down and not just yourself? I'm not condoning it at all but if you can't see the difference then I guess there's no point discussing it. Case in point is that non-catch by Strauss yesterday, he must have known it wasn't out.

:) Yes of course I can see the difference and I understand it. And I also perfectly understand that sometimes these things are split-second decisions and once you've taken a line it's hard to go back on it. I went to ballet school - we didn't do much in the way of team games so I have virtually no experience of playing in a team. I know we want to always beat the Aussies whatever but don't we want it to be a win to be proud of. Is not the manner in which a team wins important? Does it only matter to the teams/countries concerned? No-one else gives a toss or even remembers a year or so on?
[EDIT] I'm a bit slow on the uptake today but it's occurred to me that this only matters quite so much to me in relation to Australia - and that's entirely down to the stick I'll get from my Aussie cousins. I really don't like them having any ammunition.
I haven't read anything today about Strauss' catch - has it been definitely decided it wasn't? OK, reading a bit this morning - consensus of opinion seems to suggest that it wasn't. I really couldn't tell in the replays I saw. Still, I'm not keen on anyone who constantly chews with his mouth open.
But it was great having Shane Warne in the commentary box yesterday. Highly entertaining and generous.
I thought Ponting did that very nicely indeed.
[Edit] I saw the highlights this evening and I wish I hadn't. I was feeling quite happy this afternoon. Seemed like all the decisions were clear cut and it was a decent win. And then I saw Flintoff behaving like an ass and if I was an Aussie I would have wanted to punch his lights out. As it was, I wanted to give him a slap. No doubt I'm just getting old and cantankerous but it just seems to me that the better the achievement is, the more dignified you should be. Seeing Flintoff standing, kneeling or whatever with his arms outstretched like he was some kind of God just got up my nose. And he was sodding chewing with his mouth open! I shall now give up making any comments about sport ever!
Except I was sorry about Surtees. It's a name to conjure up. Seems such a waste. But whatever else in his very short life, at least he made a podium once.

Looks like Massa's going to be out of action for a while:

On the other hand there will be quite a long break between tomorrow's race and the next one in the docks of Valencia, whereas if all the races had two week gaps he'd miss quite a few.
Usually an accident like this can serve as a wake-up call, but I don't think there's much that can be done about this sort of thing.
