Bloody Hell that was close, but it was awesome. I felt bad for Massa's family though. That moment when the truth dawned... :(
I was impressed with how Massa maintained his composure, but of course the championship is won and lost over the whole season, and in the end the right man won.

You could spot the *exact* moment when they realised that no, they hadn't won the WDC. It was hilarious.
I don't really care for Hamilton, but 'Felipe Massa, World Champion' will never work, especially after Silverstone this year.

Out of interest, why don't you like Hamilton? His racing or his personality? I don't follow grand prix so I have not much idea what either is like!

So it's goodbye to Coulthard and I did feel sorry for him. Last Grand Prix and he barely made it through the first corner.
And an even better result - goodbye ITV. Though who'll commentate for the BBC, I've no idea. But at least there'll be no more manky adverts in the middle of it all.
I missed the race because I was at work and was gutted to watch the highlights and find him out at the first corner. It wasn't his fault and a horrible way to end his F1 career.
And I for one will miss those ITV adverts. :(

He hasn't really 'paid his dues'. Most drivers either spend a year as a test driver, or start in a backfield team and get promoted up. He just jumped in a top car with a bit of a 'hay guys I am guuuud' attitude.
It's not so much that I actually dislike him, but he doesn't do himself too many favours. Having his dad as his manager is not working out too well for him and he doesn't know when to shut up and has put his foot in his mouth a few times with regards to being hilariously arrogant.
He's a damn exciting driver, though.

Also I think people are a little pissed off that as soon as he started earning a bit of cash, he jumped ship to Switzerland to avoid literally paying his dues to the country that made him what he is.

I'm optimistic about our chances next season. I know we finished 11 points behind United, but we actually lost one fewer game than they did. IF we can stop drawing games we should win, and all the off-field stuff dies down, we will be there or thereabouts in 2009.
welp
Still, looking good for the Champion's League again!
Chelsea got through with the help of the softest red card ever. Looking forward to the games tonight!

Oh excellent, I was thinking about doing a sports thread for this year, but this one is just as good as it's not very long :D
Has anyone been paying attention to the pre-season F1 testing? It's the biggest set of rule regulation changes for a good 10 years, particularly in the aerodynamic area, so teams are all over the place.
Ferrari seem to be at the top at the moment, McLaren are struggling massively. Yesterday they were bottom of the timesheets save for Bourdais, who's car caught fire after 14 laps and Buemi who didn't get to drive because of the fire.
I'm most impressed by the new Brawn GP team. Ross Brawn bought the old Honda team. Button did a 5 lap shakedown at Silverstone on Friday and then headed over to the final public test in Barcelona where they spent most of the day at the top of the timesheets, and ended the day in at the pointy end. Barichello did the same thing yesterday, confirming that it wasn't a fluke, the car seems genuinely fast.
Button's back on track today, and early times have him once again at the pointy end.
God, I'm such a massive F1 nerd :(

Yes, unfortunately, we didn't stop drawing matches against crap sides and the off-field business didn't die down. Same old, same old.

United will retain their trophy. Balls in the fridge time, so expect us to be drawn against another English team and United to get a cakewalk against the weakest side left in the competition.

Me! Can't wait until the new season kicks off. First off, I don't like the look of the new cars - they just look so GP2-ish. However, if this is supposed to improve overtaking and reduce the preformance gap between the front and back of the grid like they say the would, then it's a fair trade.
I'm still a little unconvinced however. I think it will only be a matter of time before you get another situation of two teams with a realistic chance of winning the championship.
Good to see ex-Honda doing well! I was glad when I read the news that Brawn and Co bought the outfit. Hopefully we can see great things from two of the most experienced drivers on the grid. I'm expecting podiums at least in the latter rounds.
BBC coverage is using the old theme (you'll know the one), from what i've read elsewhere. It seems to be the theme of F1, but I wish they'd just let it drop. That's one thing that may irritate me before to long. Coulthard and Eddie Jordan as co-presenters is brilliant though.
I'm thinking that Vettel and Kubica are going to throw a few surprises. Kubica at least I think may score a few wins. And I haven't heard much about Renault, apart from their title sponser withdrawing from next year, but I wouldn't discount Alonso.
