SD, I think I've been hearing you say that about Liverpool's chances for at least the past three years ;)

So, I was unfortunately unable to get to Wembley at the last minute but Ebbsfleet still managed to win the FA Trophy without my support!

Nah, realistically this was the first season in a while I've thought we were in with a decent shout at a title challenge. I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between the quality of our side and United or Chelsea - we just frittered away too many points against utter rubbish.
Time and time again this season I've seen us totally dominate games and then struggle to even draw. Take Villa at home - 8-0 wouldn't have flattered us, but somehow we contrived to go 2-1 down and needed a last minute Crouch special to rescue a point.
What really did for our chances this season was all the off-field nonsense with our American co-owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett. All that uncertainty over the future of the club and the manager visibly unsettled the team. However, once that died down, we began to show championship form. This is our record since February, compared to that of the title contenders in the same period:
Liverpool: Pld 15 W 11 D 3 L 1 Pts 36
Chelsea: Pld 14 W 9 D 5 L 0 Pts 32
Man Utd: Pld 14 W 9 D 3 L 2 Pts 30
Bearing in mind that we had nothing but Champions League qualification to play for, the fact that we were outperforming two sides going full tilt for the title is even more impressive.
So I really don't think we're that far away. Of course the watchword is consistency, but I would say if you could get odds of around 8-1 for Liverpool to win the league next season, it would be worth taking a punt.
That said, I think United and Chelsea are clear favourites for the title, simply because they can outspend the opposition by such a huge margin.

One principal told The Times that his team will keep an eye on Mosley so they can avoid him and have even considered an informal scouting system around the Monte Carlo paddock to warn them of his presence.

I love the idea of someone running into the McLaren garage and saying "He's coming!" and Ron Dennis urgently trying to hide behind a stack of tyres.

With apologies to SD. With Liverpool in mind and reading R Soul's post I remembered this from way back which kind of nicely links the two. An oldie but some of you may not know it.

The Ferrari Formula1 team fired their entire pit crew yesterday.
The announcement followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of the UK Government's Youth Opportunity Scheme and employ some people from Liverpool.
The decision to hire them followed a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from the Liverpool area were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Ferrari's existing crew can only do it in 8 seconds with millions of euros worth of high tech equipment.
Prime Minister Tony Blair went on record as saying that this was a bold move by the Ferrari management which demonstrated the international recognition of the UK under New Labour.
As most races are won and lost in the pits, Ferrari thought they had the advantage over every team. However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for. At the first practice session, the Liverpool pit crew successfully changed the tyres in less than 6 seconds, but within seconds they had also re-sprayed, re-badged and sold the vehicle to the McLaren team for 8 bottles of Stella, a kilo of speed and some photos of Coulthard's bird in the shower.
And now to the abysmal performance by Leeds last night - groan. Well-deserved win though quinch. Your lot played really well I thought. Also - on that performance - much more likely to stay in the Championship than a bunch of 5th rate amateurs who don't deserve to wear the shirt.

The most exciting thing happening right now, for me is not the Scots vs The Ruskies, but rather the possibility of Hull City making it into the Premiership. It'll be the first time in Hull's history, and it's the largest city in the UK (if not Europe) to never have been in the top division. And I'm a Hullite so...

Fingers crossed SE - 1st leg result was good.
And 2nd leg result was even better.

Well I tried listening to Monday's match on BBC 5 Live but Stan Collymore's punditry melted my brain. Shock result though but I'm not going to get too excited until the fat lady is singing. Definitely want to see tonight's game so I might have to try Walkabout.. :erg:
Hey, how about those wacky Rangers fans eh? :tsktsk:
D'Arcy on 15/5/2008 at 12:06
What did the Rangers fans do?
I was quite happy to see Zenit win the UEFA Cup. At least it's a team that plays attractive football, unlike Rangers. It was painful enough watching how they managed to knock Fiorentina out with a style of play that was even more defensive than any catenaccio I've ever seen.
