I don't know what rock I've lived under, but I just heard about this movie today (which I guess was released two years ago). It looks interesting, but due to the fact that it is from the director of
Trainspotting and
28 Days Later, I am wondering how intense it will be. The Mrs. doesn't like particularly gruesome or violent/torture movies, and
Trainspotting left her particularly disturbed. Should I expect the same from (

Sunshine? I need to figure that out before I rent it ;)

Still kinda-sorta on my list - I know the general TTLG consensus was "very good first half that completely falls apart, plot-wise, in the second half." Can't comment on the level of violence, though my impression was that it wasn't 28 Days Later.

I'd go with that consensus. Starts well, looks great, has some fantastic atmosphere, becomes aalghlaaallahaghahahhagla.

I have a lot of love for sunshine. It's a beautiful and melancholy character study on a few people in an insulated tin can plunging into something that's at the same time the giver of all life, and hell itself.
The 3rd act is weaker, going a bit slasher-flick, but I didn't find it bad enough to ruin the experience overall.
Also there's only one or two brief shots that i'd call gruesome.

Yep, there's not that much gore in it. It's a lovely, tense quasi-scientific thriller, but as people have already said, that 3rd act propels headlong into disappointing and uninspired B-movie slasher-flick territory.
But the movie's definitely worth the watch for everything that happens before that.

it's not very good

Nice idea, but doesn't work and falls apart at the end.

Some beautiful imagery, terrible "idea" for a movie, atmospheric execution for a while, fucking atrocious third act.

I really liked this movie...probably because it's the first good (space) sci-fi that's come along in quite a while. Everyone knows about the crappy ending but it's not as bad as people will say it is. The premise does not seem plausible but in fact it's based on a perfectly sound scientific theory...probably not a well known one and it could use some elaboration in the movie but that didn't bother me at all. I found it immersive, atmospheric and it didn't overdo it trying to be entertaining or action packed..and for that it was even better. You might say they slow played the movie a bit but I thoroughly enjoyed the buildup. See the movie.

It suffers from Event Horizonitis. Nice start, shlock horror ending of deepest creamy cheddar.
