Hey everyone,
Thanks to all the useful informants here, it's really helped me out a couple of times, though I've found I can discover these things for myself with a lot of patience in most cases, I don't mind a good shortcut now and then :)
My question isn't all the important, but I've discovered that I have a spell that I didn't buy from anybody, and I'm curious how I got it. It's Summon Dwemer Anticulsomething, can't remember the last word, and it summons a Sphere Centurion for 120 secs. I do a lot of summoning so I certainly don't mind having it, but I don't understand how I got it, since I'm 100% sure I never bought it.
Is this a reward from doing a cult or Mages' Guild quest? Those are the two guilds I'm in right now and I generally don't pay too much attention to the rewards, so that's my only guess...
One other question: I've never been able to find any real use from any Detect spells (creature/key/etc). Do any of you have uses for these that are actually helpful? Right now I just rely on Conjuration, though I'm quite proficient in everything but Destruction, and almost level 30, but I'd like to expand my uses of magic a bit.
Thanks for any help!

Re: that funky summoning spell, you went raiding at Galom Daeus and picked up the book "Secrets of Dwemer Animunculi", and then read it ;) Don't lose it if you plan on joining the Telvanni ;)
(Oh, and show it to Edwinna in the Ald'Ruhn Mages Guild ;))
Re: the various 'detect' spells, there's one Imperial Cult mission where 'detect enchantment' is a verrry nice thing to use (they give you a ring that casts it), and I generally like to have a constant-effect 'detect key' running just for information's sake. (picking some doors is illegal, but using keys to open them isn't)

Yep, I did raid Galom Daeus, cleaned house, good times were had by all non-vampires :)
Just attained highest ranks in Cult and Mage Guild, and headed for Sadrith Mora to join Telvanni now, so I guess I should try and figure out where I left that book. What a pain :(
I did all the Cult missions without using detect anything, so I guess now I'm curious which quest you refer to.

Detect spells can be useful... when your a low level and you can't search places well. I personally never bothered with any of the detect spells because I really never needed them. Only things I pick up are quest related items(not that hard to spot), relics(which I have gotten all of, except for the mysterious queen of bats which nobody has been able to find without using the console or editor), and gold coins. So, detect enchantment never really is needed. Detect key is sort of useful... if you come to a place where you actually need a key because you cant use a lockpick or spell. And detect creatures... actually I never even bought that spell, lol... why would I care if there is a creature ahead or not, I'll probably kill it anyways(only exception are guars because they act so cute).

Re: the book, don't sweat too hard if you can't find it; it's only needed for the 3rd-stage Stronghold, and (as with the other 2 Houses) the 3rd stage is just for fun (ie: it's not needed for anything House-related)
Re: the Cult quest, I'm referring to the one where you have to find this one dead pilgrim's corpse, and return with his staff and other eq. (more details: he's on Mt. Kand, IIRC)

ah that one, would you believe I was wandering around through that area, and said to myself "enough of this, I'm gonna levitate up here and see what's what. Lo and behold, I picked an incredibly great spot :)
better lucky than good I guess :)
Thanks all for the help
