It was free on Epic (well, via Amazon Prime, so 'free'), so I gave the opening hour a spin. It's very much a game of mashed-together dichotomies, where the obvious Arkham mode of cinematic story-driven gameplay and the looter-shooter live service grind compete with each other and average the whole thing out to a solid 'eh, but why tho'. The idiots calling it a deserved failure because it's woke are a red herring - they're pretty starved for schadenfreude - so ignore them. The problem is that when you get to play the game, it's got some things going for it, but the overarching failure is how incredibly tedious the live service superstructure is to behold both in the moment and the zoomed-out picture. The gameplay's got some interesting things going for it, but flattens out almost immediately, which makes for an oddly deflating experience that's about as compelling as boiled oatmeal.

Whenever there's a big budget failure the right wing trolls will try to wrangle the narrative into "it's because it was too woke!", when the clear truth is it just wasn't very good. Like with Saint's Row. Folks, I played that game, it's not considerably more woke than SR3/4. It was however a buggy mess with outdated gameplay.

Oh please, can we stop being disingenuous reality deniers already? Current era far left political agenda absolutely factored in to the game's failure (nobody said it was the sole cause, of course). Eg they purposely made female characters uglier than prior Arkham games. The game is a live service, nobody wants to spend real world moneyt on cosmetics for ugly characters. The contempt for the tastes of heterosexual men is present in the narrative:- Harley Quinn scoffing at her outfit from Arkham Knight; a character who's female sensuality was a core part of their character, Poison Ivy, being replaced by not just a child version, but who looks like Gretta Thunberg. Then we have DLC characters which absolutely don't appeal to the majority of AAA gaming's main audience: Elseworlds Joker who's like a stereotypical comedic relief 1990s gay male character; Mrs Freeze who's a stereotypical butch lesbian.

Now we're pretending like contempt by the developers' to franchise's legacy (eg American urban thug culture) wasn't a huge factor of the game's failure. As early as a 1+ year prior to the SR22's release the Community Managers were gleefully being cheeky little shits on social media and the official Discord server towards existing fans who complained in the change in direction. Contempt for things which a heterosexual male might enjoy are very much a symptom of hatred of woke leftists letting their ideology heavily influence their work (eg displays of "toxic masculinity" like American urban thug culture; depictions of traditionally feminine, sexy female characters.).
They censored legacy "non-PC" humour like Freckled Bitches (Wendy's parody) and car mechanic chain Rim Jobs. They nerfed the breast sizes available in character creation. The highly masculine, thug archetype for African American males being replaced with the wimpy nerd, black male archetype common in woke media (eg Mr Terrific from CW's Arrow + Luke Fox from CW's Batwoman). Obvious examples of woke political agenda being pushed right there.
