I just gave £10 (the other tiers didn't look that interesting). I think it went up £1000 between the time I read this thread and the time I pledged, like a half hour. It's only £7500 away at the moment and considering what they have shown so far it really should be funded.

Gave 20 pounds (for beta access) because I really want to see this made -- having a good feeling about it.

According to the developers their game is all about the world and gameplay. The presented technology is just one, but important tile on the road to their goal to build an immersive fantasy RPG, that is not based on artificial leveling and stats, but on natural and realistic elements, which also goes for magic, which is supposed to play a big role in the game and the lore of the world.
They admitted that their Kickstarter video gave people a false impression, as if like it was just a tech demo and no game around it, while in fact they spent years not just building the engine, but also developing the lore and the concept of the world. They say they have a strong vision of the game and they did not disclose any information about it because they want to let people experience every single bit of it. There is not much of a story, but a chain of events in an open world. You being set in the world is the first event, because your interaction with the world triggers consequences, which infuence further events and unfold a unique chain of events with varying outcomes.
This sounds very ambitious and I do not expect too much, but I am willing to give them a chance to let them prove it.
They explained that they have very competent writers (recruited one recently also) so there will be a ton of readables, books and notes to explore and gain knowledge about the lore and the history of the world. Writings are an important part of the game and there will be tons of information hidden in all sorts of literature. LGS style if you ask me.
The project lead gave an interview on (
http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/11/28/an-interview-with-sui-generis-developer-madoc-evans/) Forbes explaining many of these things.
Also to note is, that they are heaviliy influenced by the erly Ultima games, which in turn inspired Looking Glass Studios with their Ultima Underworld game and that way also a bit with Thief. There is a fine subtle connection that I see there connecting Thief, Ultima and Sui Generis. I say in spirit they are related.
I read the Forbes interview (it came as a KS update emailed to all backers). What they say and what they do are two different things. They need money and people are concerned about a lack of game / story, so of course they are going to say that's all wrong. The proof will be in the pudding.

Honestly, with tech like that, I'd be happy just to fund more R&D on it for public release. I'm not terribly concerned about the quality of the story in light of what can be done with it; I'd be happy if they made their editing and creation tools freely available to pledgers (which they are doing, I guess) to make their own games with, because it's brilliant and that collision detection should be a de facto standard for today's games.
They're getting funded, of that there is no doubt. 148k pledged of the 150k target, and 7 hours to go.

The funding is a shocker but it looks good, almost at £149 with 6 hours to go :) I think this one really deserves to make it so i'm crossing my fingers.

And done! That was fast.

Great. Now hopefully it'll get finished. My £20 gets me early beta access, so I'm looking forward to that.

Exanima, the "prelude" to Sui Generis was made available to all backers the other day, tho it's seemingly still in Early Access. I've spent 4 hours with it, and I gotta say, it's pretty amazing. It looks great, the music is nice and moody, and the combat is so far up my alley it almost hurts.

Not without it's flaws though. It's permadeath, which means you'll be replaying the first portion of the game A LOT before you figure out what you're doing and how to make some progress. When you do get some ways into it though, the threat of having to start over from scratch only makes it more tense. I'm pretty far into it right now. I've found a greatsword, some nice pieces of armor, and even a healthpotion. I'm in a big room with a big scary door that I'm kinda afraid of opening. Think I'll go back and check out some of the sidepaths I missed out on instead.
update: oh shit now I've done it. Ok I was in this pitch black corridor, only my torch for illumination. I open a door and there's an angry monster on the other side. I slam it shut before it can get through, drop my torch to the ground and equip my sword and shield. Then I open the door, monster comes running out, we trade blows for a while in the dark hallway illuminated only by my torch on the ground. He manages to get a few really good hits in and before I know it my stamina is down to a sliver! (when you're out of stamina, you die) So I have to retreat but the only viable place to retreat to is through the door the monster came through. So I back in there and slam the door shut, locking the monster outside. Great. Except without even the illumination of the torch I am now in pitch blackness. No matter, I'll just wait here for a bit, let my stamina regenerate and then go back outside. Only... once my stamina is back and I've gathered my courage, I, eh... can't find the door knob. I've been fumbling around in the dark for the last couple minutes and I think I may have lost my bearings completely. God I hope it doesn't end like this.
update 2: oh god I'm not alone in here.
update 3: I'm dead. And I love this game.

That looks amazing.
Probably the closest thing to the intensity of Severance I've seen in years. Plus any desperate fight where you have to manage with a stool stuck on your leg is awesome by me.
Severian_Silk on 1/5/2015 at 14:00
After watching that video and reading henke's thoughts about the game, I gotta say that I haven't been so hyped up in a long time. Need to get this! :cheeky:
And yeah, it does resemble Severance or Dark Souls in a way. And that combat looks amazing.
