So an RPS article got me to notice this - (
http://www.baremettle.com/sg/home/) Sui Generis. Another RPG kickstartup, but what is unique is the supposedly 1:1 physics system. That is, a table isn't made of a few collision boxes - it's a full on table with every edge!
Cool, but what is cooler is this translates to combat - the characters parries by actually blocking the hit with his sword, not merely because he rolled 18 on a magic die. This further leads to realistic momentum - if the character get hit and parries with a sword, his hand that got hit gets pushed back, and he gets knocked back realistically. Awesome!
But my favorite part - the early alpha animations combined with realistic momentum look kind of hilarious - (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvZchE30StQ#t=7m55s) the little dude looks like he's just madly flailing the swords like a retard without any idea what he's doing :D It cracked me up (but I'm sure the shot of brandy in my tea had nothing to do with it). Reminds me of the old sumo-wrestling physics game that was also barrels of hilairty.
Fyi, full pitch video:

Overall very impressive engine and the guy(s) are definitely talented. Not sure how I feel about his "I coded *everything* by myself!" - I applaud the effort but, from my own experience, I don't think it's necessarily the most cost-efficient choice and can lead to some tunnel-vision or poor code. Eitherway i'd love to chat with the guy about his tech, awesome stuff.

Looks like it'd be fun to make fan maps, and you get all the good gameplay for free. If there's no 3rd party stuff to worry about, he's in a better chance to make an editor & mod tools.

Saw this on RPS recently. I love the idea of truly physics based combat. It's not terribly far from the system Dark Souls used. Hope you can equip a shield in one hand though, the two sword flailing does indeed look silly. On the other hand it gives the combat a gritty, down-and-dirty feel. Much more like what actual swordfighting looked like than the stylish combos you effortlessly string together in every other game.
I might consider kicking a few bucks towards (
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473965863/sui-generis) the kickstarter before the deadline is up.

I've pledged £10. That last fight really looked like he was getting the crap kicked out of him and the killing blows actually made me wince. Everything else they've talked about in their updates sounds potentially interesting too but they're being pretty vague on the details.

This has nothing on Sumotori.

This looks like the kind of thing Euphoria would be really helpful in. Wasn't that the whole idea of Euphoria anyway?

This one needs more exposure and support people.
Srsly, cartoon manhwa sh*t like Diablo 3 get all the fans and a mid/low-fantasy game, similar to Game Of Thrones and Conan gets kicked out of the game. People are idiots.

I accidentally and unconsciously bump this thread gently.

It's great tech, and I'd dearly love to see it funded, but you already reached the level of bumpitude needed to keep this thread afloat the first time. I doubt folks're gonna rally around it and sing about it in the streets to bemused passers-by if they haven't yet already.
