Forced them to both function on one core. V-sync is what you're talking about right? That was already selected as on as default. I turned it off then back on, but still froze at the loading screen. This time though, it actually went to the real loading screen, it just didn't make any progress on the load.
A friend mentioned that I could maybe run a virtualization of XP on my Vista, or install a partition of it. Would this be something worth trying?

That is a none starter, it wont support 3D of any kind and is far too slow..being an emulated environment.
if the game is coming up with the load screen it should run...what nvidia driver version have you got installed..? also what is the exact make and model of your laptop..?
