Thinking about my next big mod project :)
Which old game do you think could be in need of a serious retexure? Preferably one that isn't mind numbingly hard/complex to mod... Of course, many of the more popular old games already have texture packs, but there's so much shit too, like someone just batch processing all the textures x4 + puts sharpening on them, ugh, you didn't improve shit my dude.
Even the more recent AI upscaled ones are pretty poor tbh.
The KOTOR games do seem to still lack something even half-decent. I made graphical mods for them ages ago but they're at least partially kind of outdated.
Could System Shock 2 be updated to look just way more detailed perhaps? Maybe it would take away something more than add to it. I do feel that with those old games which lacks in polygons AND they also use super flat textures with no 3D details does tend to look a bit boring and more 2D than needed. Yes it's not optimal to make textures look "3D" because the engine is supposed to handle that via the lighting and normals, but old games doesn't have this, not to any greater extent anyways.
Never did a 2D game retexture, so that would be fun.. not sure which game though, BG2? Never looked at how its done or how complex it would be.
Any ideas?

Good suggestion! I especially love retexturing nature stuff so that could be fun. I wonder if this game could be modded with new models...
The only thing that takes away from it is that i bet it hasn't aged well in the gameplay dept. :( i do tend to like retexturing games that i intend to actually play. I mean it wasn't perhaps great at the time at release, i can only image what i would think today.

Also, our very own Terra Nova: SFC seems to be completely neglected, but not sure how much can be done with the memory limitations and without access to source code.

Are you looking to do faithful updates ("the same, but better"), or more of a reinterpretation?
You mentioned System Shock 2, but that already has a texture packs that faithfully update most of its textures.
The levels and objects are a bit simple, but that's also part of the style.

Yeah. One of those games which would do better with a complete overhaul than just a retexture. A hi-res retexture for that game could just end up looking really wrong i think!

It has a faithful texture pack indeed. If i would mod it it would be something similar to what i'm doing with Dark Forces 2:

(you can drag the thingy in the middle to see more or less)
so more detail added, a bit more 3D and modern looking overall.

yeah, damn, i might need to get into Thief again, been a while. Quite a fun game to retexture, i have some old retextures for both games i believe.

I'm not too interested in making retextures for new games to be honest, it's just way more fullfilling to do them for old classics.
There's this TC for Gothic 2... (

maybe i should remake its textures because they did mostly just reuse the old textures or make similarly low res ones.
Diakatana, nah.. not one of my favorites :P
