Special-effects giant Stan Winston, the man responsible for many effects in The Terminator, Predator, Jurassic Park, Aliens as well as the recent Iron Man, died today from multiple myeloma.

This article wrongly attributes 'The Thing' to Winston, he only did the dog beast thing, but the rest of his body of work speaks for itself. A true giant and pioneer of special-effects and even that feels like an understatement.
RIP

I've always gotten excited when seeing Stan the man's name in the opening credits of a movie. The man was a superb talent and shall be missed.
I'll get the dubious.."GAME OVER MAN, GAAAAME OVER!" out of the way..

I was rather saddened when I saw this, some of the most iconic movie images ever were brought to life by this man. He was recognised by the Academy, but all too often these people are the unsung heros of cinema.

A Legend is gone. *sigh*

Oh well... but at least film monsters are immortal. :(

Oh stan.. in a way, I'll never forgive you for thinking you were better than giger, but still, I'll miss you. Another flame of craft burns out on the pile of increasingly bland smouldering CGI dung that is hollywood special effects.

Did he? Well certainly he had better expertise in animatronics while G. is more like a classic sculptor.
Now let's discuss "Landscape of penises." (pity I can't properly emulate Swiss accent)

Hey, hey! From everything I've heard, they actually played quite well!
Apart from that whole scoring thing, that is...

He made really weird impression on me in the Alien Qaudrilogy documentaries...
Regarding Winston, I guess Amalgamated Dynamics could be considered as heirs of his legacy more than the actual Stan Winston Studio.
And I don't CGI wave will destroy animatronics. The surge of CGI-madness is over and filmmakers realize there is place for both SFX approaches, if you combine them sensitively. But stop-motion is, alas, dead since Jurassic Park.
