My memory is a little hazy now but I believe that grate is only frobbable on Normal or only frobbable after achieving an objective. However if you've got the objective to lock Grent in the library, then you should be able to open the library door. If you haven't got that yet, then you need to complete the objective to 'Find out what happened after Grent arrives at the castle' before you can access the library. (I think that's right)

You should be able to walk through the door of the library at any point. Grent and the key won't be in there until after you've read his journal though.

find out what happened to Gent. I was under the assumption that the clue lied somewhere
in the library. I've been repeatedly through the guest rooms and don't know how I missed

I've heard in an earlier post that there is a secret in the pool room off the staircase. Where is that? Iv'e mad frobbed the whole pool. I've tried to arrow shoot up to the clock to no avail

Found it. This was not the same pool that I was thinking of. There is a deep pool and a shallow pool with a dead gaurd body in it.
