I remeber reading a while ago that these is a patch (or something like that) to make the game run faster by making the game check for the CD only at the start of the program. Can someone help me out here?

Theres a fps optimizer program... you can find it at most morrowind mod download pages, heres a good one...

My game was running fine (900 mHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB graphics card), but it took ages to load surroundings when moving about outside, or when loading exteriors after being indoors - it just froze for ages, very irritating. But it does not do it any more. The solution? I replaced my old and v. small hard drive with a new one which has a speed of 7200 (I think thats rpm). The difference in performance was miraculous.

FWIW, access speed is just as (or even more) important w/ a hard drive; most are ~ 9ms, but some are just under 5ms, and they're blindingly fast in comparison.
