Okay, this had me cracking up, maybe this is more common than I thought. This article claims that (
http://www.knowledgebase-script.com/demo/article-113.html) Water Therapy cures TB within 90 days, diabetes within 30, and all other articles on it claim to cure cancer within 180 days. How do they list that it cures cancer like they would list a side effect? Anyone else know of other 'alternative medicine' practices that make these kinds of claims?
Also, for the record I actually have unknowingly practiced 'water therapy' for the most part for the past few years (at least the drinking tons of water first thing in the AM things) and just got a NASTY case of food poisoning this weekend, so...if it's going to cure cancer I would hope it could at least keep me from safe from a little bacteria:(

They also say that the human disease is caused by excess of blood. And leeches need to be applied to the effective parts.

Probably the most asinine cure for cancer is the (
http://www.cancure.org/hoxsey_clinic.htm) Hoxsey cure. If I remember correctly, the lady who ran the clinic after Hoxsey died of cancer. But, the skin cancer remedy actually has some merit in that its main ingredient is Sanguinaria canadensis (Bloodroot) which has been used successfully to knock out skin cancers.
Other than that...ask Andy Kaufman how his alternative treatments went.
Not that this is a "cure" for any "disease" but you can rid yourself of hiccups (even those violent, persistent fuckers) with a spoon and a glass of water, 100% of the time. Simply fill a glass with water, place a spoon in the water, place the end of the spoon's handle against the bridge of your nose, and slowly drink (you don't need to hold your breath). They'll be gone when the water is gone.

The water site also says it cures ear nose, so I might give it a try. I'm sick of hearing things through my nostrils.

The worst part of having ear nose is when you're in the middle of a crowd while something loud is happening, and you have to choose between either risking hearing loss or sticking your fingers up your nose in front of a bunch of people. Well, that plus the fact that when you catch a cold you get snot running out of your ears.

Oh, there's tons. Go to quackwatch.org and you'll find a massive list of ridiculous cancer treatments.

I'm not sure I want to read that page, I'm sure it's going to be some horrible version of rickrolling involving fetishes about bodily functions.

Eating humic-rich dirt inhibits HIV.
My dad sells humates for fertilizer, but likes to talk about its other marvelous properties ... one of which is that it supposedly inhibits HIV better than, e.g., AZT (that is, the amount of AZT to get the same level of inhibition would be toxic). But probably more importantly is humantes are outrageously cheaper. I think a typical cocktail was like $20,000/year to fund on the cheap end, whereas humates at a better level of inhibition could sell at easily under $100/year. Good luck getting the pharmaceutical industry funding its development, though!
Anyway, there is a group in the Village of holistic medicine Aids patients who wouldn't use commercial drugs on principle, and they swear by the stuff. Since there's not much incentive to fund research on it, most of the results are anecdotal.
There's been some interesting studies though:
(
http://www.aegis.com/conferences/iac/1993/WSA172.html)
Quote:
CONCLUSION: Our experiments support the hypothesis, that humate blocks the infectivity of HIV by attachment to gp120. Since this interaction does not prevent binding of gp120 to CD4, the inhibitor most probably interferes with a step in the fusion reaction, that occurs after binding of virus to the receptor.
Also reported effects on must viruses, flu, west nile ... detoxifies, helps immunity, cleans the kitchen...

(
http://www.iowrock.demon.co.uk/archive/iow_archive_zappa.html) Here's one reference to it. Look near the bottom. Guy's just a fan, not an authority on the subject. Fan of Zappa I mean, not of cancer.
I wouldn't expect to find much. He was diagnosed too late for conventional treatment, so the details of how he tried to deal with probably don't get much attention since he had a big "terminal cancer" sign on his forehead at that point. Plus it was back before there was much of an internet to speak of, so it wouldn't have gotten a million postings like it would today. And because he died, it's unlikely that the snake-oil sellers will be bringing it up on their current web pages as a selling point.
I remember it from a discussion on a local radio station just after the diagnosis was made public.
