One of the missions for the Ald'Ruhn Mage Guild is to fetch a the Chimarvamidium
book from the Vivec guild, without getting caught. Well, I got caught, after I had already stolen the book and saved the game. The book was removed from me and I was out of the guild for two weeks. Now I'm back in the guild but am still asked to deliver the book. IT"S GONE!!! Is there anywhere else in the game you can fetch/steal/buy the Chimarvamidium book? Like my character a lot and don't want to start over. Already checked Sirlowna's room in Vivec, she doesn't have it any more either. I thought there was a fort or some place where all stolen items are kept. Anyone have some help??

I had this problem with a key while trying to break into the redoran vaults.
Once you steal an item, and get caught, the item dissappears.
Proof:
1) I pickpocket a key from the redoran guy who has it.
2) He sees me.
3) Before I can drop it, the guards caught up to me and arrested me.
4) Key has been removed from inventory(same with everything else that I have that is stolen. Which is approx. 98% of my EQ.)
5) I kill ALL the ordinators and the characters in the room.
6) None of the corpses have the key.
I think you are severly screwed. Are you on XBox? If you are, then find an old savegame, forget the guild, or start over.
If no, I'm sure that someone will mention the command needed to return the book to your inventory.
Good luck.

Don't forget to check the evidence boxes in the various Legion forts; I've never checked, but I hear that anything taken from you is dumped in one. (probably the closest one, the same way that the Intervention spells take you to the closest applicable safety zone)

You know, I had a brief though about something around those lines being in the game. Forsythe, do you know this much info about all the games you play?
heh, thanks again with the shortsword help.

We thought we had read somewhere (me and my two roommates
are addicts of the game and share (sometimes nicely) on xbox) that
stolen items taken from you were kept in a fort. We checked one fort
but didn't find anything so didn't really keep looking after that.
I was hoping maybe there was another copy of the book somewhere
in the game to be found....fat chance, eh?

Look for an evidence chest in the Hall of Justice. If its anywhere, it'll be there.

Evidence chests are clearly marked. During the character creation, you can see an evidence chest next to the guard in the Census and Excise office (in the room that lets you choose your class and birth sign).
Thought I would point that particular one out so you know what to look for.

knife: Only games that really draw me in (ie: the Ultima series, Thief, etc.). And no problem ;)
Loric: I don't recall seeing one anywhere else, but unless someone else beats me to it I'll look it up when I get home.
Edit:
Okay, here's the scoop on the book... Sirlonwe's got the only "for sure" copy of it; it's possible to randomly get it via most treasure-type chests, but your odds of getting that one in particular are pretty abysmal (the chances of a "special treasure" appearing is 1 in 20, the chances of a book being part of the "special treasure" are 1 in ~102, and the chances of that particular book being this one are 1 in ~137... you do the math :p)
As such, I'd reccomend scouring the evidence chests; here are all of their locations:

Seyda Neen, Census and Excise Office

Sadrith Mora, Wolverine Hall: Fighter's Guild

Pelagiad, South Wall

Moonmoth Legion Fort, Prison Towers

Ebonheart, Hawkmoth Legion Garrison

Buckmoth Legion Fort, Prison

Luck ;)

Thanks for the great location!!! I searched through the Hall of Justice in
Vivec and found nothing. I'll spend some time checking out the evidence
chests. Much easier with known locations!!!

If something was taken from you in Vivec it should end up in Ebonheart since that is the closest.
