Hello!
I'm playing a Thief (read: not a fighter) and am utterly frustrated with the second Thieves' Guild quest, to get the key for Sugar Lips.
I'm level 5, and as I've received this quest early on, I assumed this was meant for my current level. Am I supposed to table it until later? I'm of the cat race - sorry, the fake language from the game just won't stay in my head and I can't remember names of races, towns, or people in the game - they just slide out of my head.
I'm on the PC, I've installed the Morrowind patch, the Tribunal expansion and the Tribunal patch, the Bloodmoon expansion and the Bloodmoon patch. I don't want to use Console Cheats to get past this because once I open that door I know I'll start using the console to cheat in other ways because I'm weak :)
I have the spiffy armor from the assassin who tried to attack me after taking care of the murderer of the H. House noble.
Even though sneak and security are my best skills I am utterly unable to pickpocket the key either from the house leader or his servant without triggering an attack. If I kill the leader, Sugar Lips says I fail the quest.
So I came here and read about how to successfully taunt someone into fighting me, happy to read that it meant only the one person would be in the fight.
I spent 1200 gold and not some little time taunting servant boy to the point where I get the "Goodbye" prompt. Click, and wham! I'm beset by everybody in the frigging bar. I'm dead in less than second from all the magic flinging at me.
Why are they ALL attacking me?
I've tried:
- Summoning a frost giant thing who takes care of one while the rest kill me.
- Drinking all of my Cyrodrilic Brandy to increase my Willpower and Endurance, thinking I'll resist their magic. Nope - I die almost instantly.
- Hitting them with my magic short sword that paralyzes for 10 seconds - they surround me and I can't get them to freeze long enough for me to kill them and they beat me to death.
- Summoning Frosty and leaving - Frosty follows me. Hmph.
- Hitting them with the Eye of Fear. I can hit one of them and make them run like a little girl but for some reason I always hit my actual target, servant boy.
- Summoning Frosty then invoking Moonshadow to make myself invisible and trying to run upstairs. I'm ashes from their magic before I take two steps.
- More variations and themes, to no avail. Dead, dead, dead. I have a few daggers that suck out health and another short sword that does Shock damage.
Why are they all attacking me when he's the one I taunted? How on earth am I supposed to fight and take them all? I just want that blasted key so I can move on to other quests - it's driving me buggy
Thanks in advance for any tips or help you may provide. I was having a blast until now!
Cheers,
-M

Butter the servant up. Bribe or Admire (Or even Intimidate if you can) the Servant guy and if he likes you enough, he will give you the key when you click on the key topic. :)

He actualy GIVES you the key? This just made my day much easier.

Thank you - that worked! And while I was on a roll, I spent some time using Speechcraft to get everyone in that bar to adore me :ebil: Ah, the power of save/reload!
Was it normal for everyone to attack after I successfully taunted to the one NPC? I thought taunting only meant you fought the tauntee...
Cheers!

In that case it is normal. I think it's scripted to get everyone to attack you or something.
And yeah, there are plenty of ways to finish almost all of the quests if you think hard enough. :D

Neat! I just went back at the behest of Himself over at Fort Moonmoth and took care of things, helped substantially by rewards given for fulfilling a few errands over at the Mages' Guild. Heh.
Question for folks about high priced items:
One of the quests at the Mages' Guild had me steal upstairs to put a fake soul gem in a guildmember's desk. As she wasn't there, and I'm a Thief, I couldn't help nipping the various very expensive soul gems from on top of the desk. One is worth a whopping 60k. Oy.
I'm headed back to Fort Moonmoth where there's an Enchanter - how much would it cost for him to make me a ring of enchantment? And do I need a fancy ring or will any common ring do?
Finally, a question about Mark and Recall:
I'm finally able to use both spells successfully - is there a way top have multiple places Marked or do you need to settle for one? If it's one, if I use one of the temples that are the result of an intervention spell as a place to stash loot, do you know if the loot gets left alone? I was thinking that, this way, when I'm out in the middle of no where as several of my upcoming quests require, I can Mark where I'm at, then use Intervention to drop of stuff that's loading me down, then Recall back to where I was.
Cheers!

The cost to enchant depends on what spells you want to place on the item. You have to know the spell before you can select to add it to the item. In general, it costs a lot. :)
Oh, and each item has enchantment point 'rating' that determines the strength of the spell you can add. The higher the quality of the item, the better the enchantment it can hold. Only the most powerful souls can give you a constant effect.
Only one Mark can be active at a time (unless you find a Mod). Items stay where they are, however, if you get too many in one place at one time, an Overflowing Loot bag will appear. Also, never put items into chests or desk etc. In quite a few cases, the items are refreshed, and this replaces items that are in there already. Including items that you put in there. :)

Heh. I want an overflowing loot bag :D
I played with that 60k soul gem and an exquisite ring that I "found" (ahem) and the spell Chameleon - if I want it to be 100-100% and last for, oh, say, 60 seconds, it's well into the 6 figures to have.
Which makes sense, of course :) I currently don't even have enough Magicka to use my Chameleon spell - it just sits there in my spell list, tempting me.
Query about the slave quest in Hla Oad:
I want to free the slave and take her to Ebonheart. Can I bring her there via a Mark spell or do we have to walk? Also, will she sneak with me or be a general pain in the tush? I'm figuring out timing of what I want to accomplish in Hla Oad and in Ebonheart and whether I should clear the way first so it's a direct path...
I haven't had this much fun with a game since I first played Thief!
Cheers!

Rabinna (like all companions) will be a pain, but you’ll be doing the right thing. The satisfaction of helping her will be worth it. You are a quick study: yes clearing the way of danger will better assure you of a successful trip. As heroic and epic as an overland journey would be, you could always take a boat to Ebonheart. I believe that the Hla Oad shipmaster will take you there directly. You will be charged double, but your companions travel with you when you fast travel by sea.
Yes, Thief is excellent. Being a thief in Morrowind falls far short of the Thief experience, but the game makes up for it in other ways.

Thanks for the tip! Oh, if only we had a blackjack in Morrowind... life would be immensely easier.
Funnily, I went to Ebonheart, happy to finally tell someone about the Dark Assassins on my butt, only to find myself transported to another city called Mournhold (?). After a chat with the Queen, I think I'm heading back to Ebonheart. I want to level a bit more before venturing into the sewers! I'll just have to deal with the periodic assassins interrupting my rest.
Is this Mournhold city part of one of the expansions? I have them both installed...
Cheers!
