I'm in Hlaalu and I finally got around to the Stronghold quest. When I went to look around at my new digs I found people living in all of the buildings and a few cool weapons laying around.
What's up with that? This is MY place! I didn't even have any visitors since taking over the Council Club early in the game. Albeit they are females but they are elves! A couple of Nords would have been more to my liking.
Are these squatters good for anything? If I move all of my stuff into the Stronghold, will it be safe? If they are useless (or harmful) is there a way to shoo them away without killing them (I would rather not mess up my new rugs with their entrails)

I presume they are the employees. Servants. Business partners. Compadres. They work for you, sera. You think you got problems, two assassins attacked me in my bedroom and now they won't leave.

My own 'squatters' actually came to help me when the assassins attacked, so they do have some uses. The only really annoying thing about them is that they always seem to stand at the bottom of the stairs thus blocking my way to my bedroom.

Squatters? Where? Dum-de-dum. Oh, them.
I finally got too annoyed by'em blocking the stairs, and they met my enchanted Daedric dai-katana. Splat-splat-splat-dispose-of-corpse-dispose-of-other-corpse.

Eek! Remind me never to come and work for you

I tried to pick up a sword in front of one of the squatters and she accused me of stealing and then I saw a message saying that I was expelled from Hlaalu I think that the "Stronghold" concept is beyond my understanding ( ...and I never even tried skooma once!).
Are these my houses? Do I own everything in them? Do these people work for me? What's the big deal about a stronghold if you can't even move your stuff into it because there is too much squatter junk laying around? If these people work for me will they be expecting a regular salary?

Hey, Jordy, just don't block the staircase and force me to jump of you, and you'd be fine. Honest.
Art - I'm not quite sure. I decided I owned it all by virtue of a blade, but I'm not sure what they intended. I think it's your private stronghold, and they're your servants...but they have some possessions.
I cleared out the main mansion, and left the guys in the other buildings alive [I see them as servants' quarters...]

Honest. You got it  How about those two women in the Mages Guild in Vivec who BOTH stand in the doorway at the same time, so even if you manage to squeeze past the first one, there's another standing in your way? That was the only time in the game I've resorted to the use of violence against unarmed civilians. (Well, not counting Fargoth of course)

It is definitely your house, the people definitely work for you, and if I remember correctly you have the option to hire extra guards as well-I hope you don't have to pay them, because I refuse to pay people for standing around aimlessly all day (and night) long.
