I'm going to Budapest so that I can nick all those cool street signs. Hope you don't mind.
Anyone know the penalty for sign-thievery?

Quite obviously I don't mind making a fool of myself, as it's one of the few things I do really well. I say, go with what you know

Ok, I do not live
on Shakespeareplatz,as it's not a valid address, but near it. Are you happy now, Alex? Then STFU!
The vast majority of streets here are named after local heroes or for where they go, too. There are about a dozen
Berliner Straßen along the perimeter, that used to lead to Berlin, but have long since been swallowed by the metropole.
Foreign street names can be a bit of a problem. I once met somebody from
Guineastraße. He must have slept through his French lessons, because he pronounced it 'Gooey-neastraße'.
I told him, that the 'u' was not a vowel, but indicated that the 'g' was a stop-consonant, not a fricative. Actually I said, "It's 'Giiiiii-neastraße', you stupid twit!"
He said, everybody in the neighbourhood pronounced it like he did.
"Ah, I see. Just like that fancy beer, whatsitcalled, 'Gooey-ness'."
"Exactly," he said.

I finally came up with one, <A HREF="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004121-2.html">inspired by another thread</A>:
In one of the industrial districts of this tiny little town is a power plant. Naturally, it's located on
Kraftverksvägen Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gifMany times have I contemplated stealing that road sign...
...but I'm too old for that now

All the rest I have seen are fairly normal :/
