That brings me back to a point I was thinking about. At this point it really might be easier and a lot less aggravating to get a vanilla copy of SS2 and start a new patch from scratch, rather than undo the plethora of changes in the Straylight patch.
I've only worked with DromEd, I sure as hell wouldn't know how to alter the strength of the weapons and such, but straight bug fixes should be up my alley. However, going through a 400 kb .txt file trying to find bug fixes is pretty slow going, when I was looking through it I couldn't find a single bug fix in the mess of weapon changes and such.

Would you like to take a guess as to how many hours it took to manually check (and realign if necessary) every single screen texture in the entire game when I patched ADaOB for SHMUP?
Straylight's bugfixes for the individual missions are listed after the generic gameplay changes.
I notice that Straylight's logs mention problems on Hydro2. Because of Hydro2.dif, of course. At some point, someone should apply TF's solution of simply renaming the entire .mis file to avoid the patched .dif file from interfering.
It's probably best not to read this changelog in too great detail, there are a few ... odd decisions in here. Why on earth did Straylight add a broken Assault Rifle to the nacelle in Engineering just for fun?

My best guess is two, three, maybe five times as long as it'd take to check the screens for the alignment numbers and apply the same numbers to the same screens in a second patch. (And couldn't the high res screens only be applied to certain maps? Some of them never had unstripped versions released?)
What was TF's fix?

As has been stated before it seems that everyone will be happy if Straylight's mod keeps being named as a mod, rather than a patch (community or otherwise). NT's original comment was in part just raising this issue of the name being misleading otherwise.
Some people patch a game to the hilt before they first play, hoping to fix any nasty bugs. This mod makes changes beyond bug fixes, which it is obvious from this discussion some people love and some people don't. So it would be misleading to name it a patch. Calling it a mod does it no disservice - if anything it implies that even more work has gone into it, and full credit to all those involved.
I've played SS2 many times but never used this mod, only SHTUP and model updates (though my first two playthroughs I didn't even use those). Personally I've been perfectly happy with the default settings of the game, and I would only use Straylight's mod if I wanted to experience something a bit different.

OT, I wonder why my posts only go halfway across the screen since the forum was updated?

It's happening with you too? Yours look normal to me, everyone else's does too, but mine are taking up maybe 3/4 of the screen. (Hooray for widescreen!)

Strangely, mine now fill the screen width, but earlier they both only half filled the text box.
The Matthew post of 24th Feb 2010 12:12 only goes halfway across on my screen though.

What the hell? It's working now. (Damn that was fast! :p) And Matthew's post looks off to me too.

Okay, I can only read so much of these changes before it feels like my head's going to explode, 2:30 am is not the time to be doing this. But, someone answer me this -- how many of the changes I'm whining about would be undone by dropping in the original .gam file, and how many wouldn't?
All of the genuine bug fixes I'm seeing seem to be in the .mis files only and I can't see the weapon mods not being done with the .gam file. Near as I can tell it probably wouldn't take me that long to do this if the Straylight patch gets used as a jumping off point.
I really need to find my SS2 CD . . .
