Strategy questions with fighting off goblins... - by Brad Schoonmaker

I've been playing this game a couple weeks, but have never had the dificulty I'm having finishing off attackers before installing Tribunal. Whoever gave those gobs such effective weapons really did too well. I'm good with just one. It's just that if there are two or more of these guys, I'm dead. every time. I need help fighting these *%@!s off. I have the Umbra Sword, Indori (sp?) armor and my Long Sword skill is maxed at 100. My Strength is also pretty high as is my Medium Armor skill. I've tried sneaking past them, but it's not as easy as in Thief. I'm currently near the area of the Old Mournhold section with the two trainers I'm supposed to kill off for the shrine. I actually stumbled into them and they also took me out. So, I just shut it down. I'm sick of so many defeats. Any help is needed:erg: and appreciated.

maybe you're not quite ready for tribunal yet. Tak3 a while of to level a bit.

don't we have to finish the MW main quest before we start Tribunal quests? Also does it make any difference in MW part of the game after installing Tribunal?, or it just adds another country, and MW stays the same as before... because i'm just waiting to finish the main quest before installing Tribunal:erm:

I asked a mate about this [I'm new to Morrowind you see] and he said that this is the beginning of the exansion pack-though you can go after the guy/girl's orginisation/home town any time you want.

Here's my advice - make a ridiculously powerful ring. You don't want to play Tribunal with a low-level character, and by the time you get a character that could handle Tribunal, you should be able to afford a high-level ring of... some effect.
For instance, I made a "Blizzard Ring," which does 100 points of Frost Damage for 3 seconds in a 45-foot area on Target. Now, that might not be right for you; I'm a Nord in this run-through, so I can aim it at my feet and not get hurt. But, to fight any nasty Nords that I came across, I also made an "Inferno Ring," (such clever naming!) 100 points of Fire Damage for 3 seconds in a 45-foot area on Target. And I've never hurt myself with it.
Even with a 100 Disposition from an Enchanter, each ring will cost you between 7,000 and 10,000 (I think). For each one, you'll need an Exquisite Ring, a Grand Soul Gem, and the trapped soul of a Golden Saint (not for a Constant Effect spell, but to give you as many recharges on the ring as possible). Don't try to do it yourself - take it to any enchanter. If you haven't bought a spell of Summon Golden Saint yet, you should. There's only two places in the game that have them a guy in the tower at Tel Branora, and the enchanter in the Godsreach market/armory in Mourhold.
It's not good for quests in cities, or tight quarters, or when there's any civilians or guards around (obviously). But, when you're in a place like the Mournhold sewers, or Dark Brotherhood caves, or any shrine (basically anyplace where every living thing inside is Evil and wants to kill you), you can really let fly with this type of weapon.
It will kill almost anything (except for an Ascended Sleeper, Ash Vampire, or Lich), with one shot. And those three, it'll usually kill with 2 shots. I took out an entire room of 13 Dark Brotherhood assassins with one casting. And the goblins - one shot kills any one of them.
But also, like was said above, your character might not be ready for Tribunal quite yet if you keep getting killed by goblins. There are WAY worse things than goblins in store for you.
Kafein - no, you can do Tribunal at any point in the Morrowind main game, and it doesn't effect anything going on in the main world at all. Which is nice. But... ultimately, kinda disappointing, given the ending to Tribunal... I won't ruin any more.

My strategy was to burn them as badly as possible from afar, preferably one at a time. When it came to a close combat, I switched to an enchanted mêlée weapon that did further damage. But you need to level up quite a bit.
And it was quite entertaining to finish Tribunal before finishing the main quest.

ye I just take them down with my bow

actually the main reason is that i havent got tribunal yet:) i have been playing MW for months... until last week i was just wandering around and doing the independent quests and faction/house quests and looting:)... but since last week i returned back to the main quest line... and it is going on too fast... i just have to go and destroy the heart of lorkhan... (i know it is much harder than it sounds:sweat:) and then there will be nothing left to do in morrowind... so i'll have to get tribunal...
but i thought tribunal is the next part of the game... i mean, i thought when i finish the main quest line of MW, i will continue the same topic from the tribunal expansion...

Thanks. As far as leveling up, I'm around level 18. I'm a Nord with 600,000 gold. Me and the mudcrab or well aquainted.
I guess I'll have to make a special weapon/ring after all. I was thinking the hype that that orc spouted about Umbra was true. It seemed like the best weapon. Until then, I was using Magebane.
I ran accross a Fire (whatchamacallit beast) soul gem valued at 6,300 a while back. Since I couldn't get anyone to buy it at full value, I've kept it. Good thing. Off to make me a special sword.:ebil: Any ideas what do choose? I know I can just create one in the editor, but with all this gold I'm feeling like that's not even necessary.

actually umbra is not that good... to learn about the weapons in MW , check the thread: (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65325) "what is your favourite weapon?" and i like magebane too...it is nice:)
but crescent, goldbrand, iceblade of monarch and (if u have blunt skill,) skullcrusher are better than umbra i think... u can find their locations by searching here...none of them are too hard to get for a 18th level nord:) (does he say: "seen any elves?" and laugh?:laff: they are very cute...)
ehem... anyway:erm: what was i saying? ah... if u want to enchant something special, better use a golden saint soul...although u will never need that much charge on a sword...
u should first get the spells that u want to enchant your weapon with... then just try them... just try to make the most effective combination... or just use one effect...
u may check:
(
http://12.145.63.45/~uesp/morrow/hints/mwenchant.shtml) the unofficial elder scrolls pages > Morrowind Enchanting Tips
it may be helpful...
also, if u enchant your weapon with (lets say) fire damage, u may also add weakness to fire... not necessary but sometimes useful... also paralize is useful...
but if u want to learn what i really think, u can't enchant anything more powerful than those artifacts above...(crescent, skullcrasher etc) that's why they are legendary... so i think u should better enchant a ring instead of a sword and go find those artifacts... they are mostly hidden in interesting places... and it will be a good experience for u and your sexy nord:)
and one more thing: if u enchant a ring with 100pts damage for 3 seconds, be careful with the creatures that has "reflect" ability... (like winged twilights and golden saints)
it hurts:sweat:
(aha...but it wouldn't be a problem for u if it was frost damage:))
