Hi all,
I've just started playing Arx on my computer:
8800S 320 MB video card (drivers updated)
Dual core E6300
2 GB ram
X-FI sound card (drivers updated)
Windows XP SP 2
and the game runs fine (kinda) - but when I come across a lit torch, or if I light a fire at a campsite, the game becomes very very choppy and the screen starts flickering wildly. Also, my character starts skipping around the world (i.e. slows down, speeds up, slows down, speeds up)
I'm using the 1.17 patch.
Any help would be appreciated :)

Part of your performance issue may be related to running Arx on a dual core system. I had a similar experience and fixed it by setting the game's affinity to one cpu core.
In case you're uncertain of how to do this, run Arx and alt-tab out of the game. Open Task Manager, locate the arx.exe process under the Processes tab and right click on it. Then choose Set Affinity and uncheck one of the two processors. Hit ok, close Task Manager and get back into Arx.
Good luck! :D

Yeah, absolutely. Imagecfg is the way to go to permanently take care of cpu affinity. :)

I get the same thing.
C2D E6750
2GB RAM
8800GTS 640MB (163.44)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
XP Pro SP2
Game runs at 85FPS solid (my refresh rate) until I see a torch... and then it drops to 10 or so. However, this ONLY seems to happen when I force anti-aliasing on it. If I disable AA, I don't get the slowdowns. Note that forcing AA does seem to work properly in the game... until I see a torch, that is.
Anyone got a fix? Affinity didn't do anything for me, and I tried messing with a few INI options like forcegdi=1 to no avail. Anybody else have this problem and/or know how to get around it without having to disable AA?

Thanks! That solved the fire problem!
I was wondering - how do we solve the unbearable flickering problem, and sometimes stuttering? An example of the flickering occurs when you see the almost destroyed fort (near the start of the game, close to where the tavern is) - that scene sees my comp flicker wildly.

Try setting
forcegdi=1 in your cfg.ini file.
