So my new pc (Win 7 Home Premium, 8 gb of ram) has 4 memory slots, with 2 of them taken up (2 sticks of 4 gb each). I bought another pair, and put it in, and my system wouldn't boot up. I tried putting just one, and it worked, but now I have 10 gb instead of 12. I had scanned my system online, and it's meant to support up to 32 gb (Windows 7 Home is supposed to recognize up to at least 16). So why isn't my extra ram showing up?

Because one of those RAM sticks is broken, perhaps?

Do you know the make and model of your motherboard in your system? I have seen some BIOS settings which are intended to help with older operating system compatibilities but not with the RAM size you're talking about.
I assume your new RAM sticks are a similar type and configuration to the existing ones - model numbers of both old and new RAM would also be useful.

The sticks are DDR3 1600, the same type that came with the pc. I'm at work, but I'll check the motherboard model when I get home.

And stuff always perfectly out of the box, all the time, and you never have to return stuff.

Ok, my motherboard model is P8Z77-V LX. I don't know the manufacturer, it says it's unknown.

Test each RAM memory module separately, test each memory bank separately (test the banks first). A step by step process which should solve your problem.

MemTest 86+, use ISO image, USB stick or Floppy. One full pass is good enough, one error is one to many.

Thanks, I'll try it later tonight
