Having put some 70 hours into Oblivion already, I have to say that without fast travel I would have stopped playing long ago. I can only get 1-2 hours at a time to play games these days & there's no way I would spend it travelling between locations.
As an FYI, I play on the PC.
I would have kept playing, but I probably would have eventually gotten annoyed with it. I loved Morrowind, but spending 4 hours walking back and forth between locations that I had already visited via terrain that I had already explored grew tiresome quickly. I think a large portion of the entertainment value of an Elder Scrolls game is exploring new parts of both the land and the story, and having to spend most of your time retreading either of those is poor game design. I think Fast Travel and the new dialogue filtering system went a long way to improving the entertainment value of Oblivion (or at least making up for the poor interface design decisions).

overall it was an improvement, but when you go to terrian that you already discovered in oblivion you'll face different creatures as long as youl lvl up

Giving players the freedom to choose (oh god I hope this doesn't spark a rant from the Blackman) is important in my opinion. Once I got Shadowmere I loved riding around new terrain, but there were certainly times when it was easier just to warp to a spot, especially when you are supposed to be protecting or following an NPC, god they walk so slowly!

They only run from bandits, animals, and crazy people.
