I'm confused
I just found this video on Youtube
(

Howcome it is so different to the oblivion that I play in? i.e. different voices, I've never seen npcs perform random sequences so detailed, different persuasion system, and different maps?
Is this some kind of beta version of the game which never turned out right? Or is my game missing something very important?

Yeah, well, as the video title says, it's an E3 demo, therefore pre-release. I believe they toned down the radiant AI and made a heap-o-changes before the final version.
Hope that helps!

Yeh that helps. I honestly never realised that they took things out of games after an e3 show or something. Seems a bit backwards to me. I'm a bit dissapointed really, except that voice acting was shockin.

Really? I believe that things are often changed after E3 demos, as some games aren't properly released until 1-2 years afterwards!
Never believe what they show or say about a game until it's hit the shelves, as in some cases the game can even change between the pre-release copies that are given to reviewers and the final product.
But yeah, I think they decided that NPC's setting fire to their own dogs and stuff was just 1 step too far. More likely the more sophisticated radiant AI shown in the demo broke (both in a technological and a quest related sense!).

He actaully said after the demo that NPCs don't really do things like set their dogs on fire. A lot of people misinterpretted that demo, it was a set up specially designed for the demo to show what can be done not what would happen, everything in that demo can be done very simply, the fact NPCs don't set their dogs on fire is another thing. But yes, the voices, speechcraft game and everything is comepletely different, it seems like they got their old actors to do that the voices for the demo, and they redesigned game mechanics since then, there is some interesting MW prerelease screenshots which look entirely different to MW.

"This is the fast travel map...you can select anywhere in the world that you already know and this gets you right to the fun"

I aggree with bugs that you shouldn't believe what developers say about the game until it's released. Fable was one of those games. Still, the detail that the npc's had in the game I think they should have kept it in. Maybe not the set dog on fire, but like the dog anoying her while she's trying to sleep type of thing. And that method of persuasion actually felt like it effected the way the character feels towards you, like when she said how she knew the character was joking since she liked jokes during the persuasion technique. Just a few things I picked up, or thought I picked up at least.

Having put some 70 hours into Oblivion already, I have to say that without fast travel I would have stopped playing long ago. I can only get 1-2 hours at a time to play games these days & there's no way I would spend it travelling between locations.
As an FYI, I play on the PC.

I hear some person always travels without fast travel, now that's something. He's probabyl discovered everything
