Back at the end of May, I was happy to make T2 finally run without any problems save some odd looking textures, a problem fixed with the ATI 9.5 driver.
Since Anno 1404 seemed to have performance issues I updated to 9.7. Sadly, T2 started to crash upon accessing the loading screen from the main menue because of this. Hovering above a save slot would generate this weird looking yellow-green-pink pixel mesh.
So I downgraded back to 9.5.... but this didn't fix it: the problem is still there. One workaround is to start a new game and then access the loading screen, which just works fine. But it seems stupid to me to always start a new game when I start the program. Any solutions aside from the mentioned workaround?
And then there's another thing: Fog does work, but it illuminates the levels in a way it feels like it is set during dusk.

Ah I bet when you upgraded you just installed the new driver without installing the previous version.....?
Completely uninstall the old version, then download and install nasty file remover, then install 9.7 again...

Thanks, I'll try that. I did uninstall 9.5 though. Yet it happened. I also found another workaround: the crash at the loading screen only happens when I access it as the first one. If I go to the options first and then to the loading screen, it's fine as well.
As for the fog: The "dusk" effect comes from the fog only being visible on the sky texture, but not in the actual level itself.
EDIT: I tried it with the NFR, but it didn't help with either version. :/ Loading while playing or accessing the options also results in a crash.

Done that, didn't help. I'll try removing it again and installing 9.7, but before that I'll uninstall T2 and install it again after 9.7 is on. Maybe that problem does not lie with the driver only.
EDIT: This is getting more stupid each time. After installing 9.7 and making T2 run again, the crashing from accessing the loading screen stopped. Now it does when trying to access the loading menu in-game.
Crashes also occur when accessing sub-menus in a certain order. Trying to load a bind as the first thing crashed the game immediately, but when going to the graphics setting first and then loading binds it works. This doesn't work in-game however.
Is the thing about Fog with ATI cards only for the fog not working at all or only working somewhat not right? (Like it does with me as described above).

ive nnever seen these type of issues with thief before... its possible you have a virus on your machine. But in any event, if my pc was doing this I would rebuild it from scratch..

I don't think it's a virus. That'd have made other programs go crazy as well, but only T2 is having issues.
It's really about time for a source port. That or a rerelease/remake of T 1 - 3 since Thiaf is coming. I mean, for Tropico 3 this year they are going to release Tropico reloaded with 1 + Add-On + Tropico 2.
But those aren't such peculiar cases as T 1 + 2.
EDIT: Loading in-game actually does work, but only after starting a new game. After that, no matter which save it is, it works.
