My name's stormbringer_951 ... Dwarf Fortress
You seem to be able to string a sentence together, so maybe you can succeed where others have failed and have a go at explaining the appeal of Dwarf Fortress in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=74) GenGaming sometime.
AFTER you've done your AS level revision, obviously

You know there is only way to promote Dwarf Fortress, and that's failing utterly in a LP thread!

LP Thread. Anyone?

I was wondering the same thing today. There seems to be some love for the game but it looks like a puddle of puke, and when I earnestly tried to be a better less superficial person and look beyond the grotesque exterior I checked the features inbetween patting myself for being so open minded. With the exception of the intriguing sounding history stuff, they also didn't grab me.
LP?

Why on earth did you decide to see the third sequel to a movie without seeing any of the others?
Well, it wasn't exactly planned. It came on TV while I was in the living room working on my mom's laptop, and I was intrigued by it. I already knew a significant amount about the Aliens; the eggs, the facehuggers, the imminent demise of a person whose face has been raped, the queen, and the basics of Ripley's involvement with them (my dad likes the Alien movies, and he brought them up in conversation when we heard about AvP). I figured I could at least enjoy the movie. In retrospect, I did know enough to not get lost at all. I probably will see the others someday.

Suggest getting the Special Edition/Director's Cut, respectively, of the latter two.
How come? Are they
that much improved?

Well, I love the scenes with the auto turrets, which were cut from the cinematic version of
Aliens.
Overall, there are 17 minutes of extra time there which help flesh out the story a little more.

Re: LP
My guess is it stands for Let's Play, which is a thread 'type', shall we say, that's quite common on other boards, e.g. (
http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=86796) Penny Arcade.
Re: Alien Special Editions
I would say the Aliens and Alien 3 special cuts both improve upon the originals, yes, but whilst the additions to Aliens are nice they are not required watching. In fact, I think one of the scenes (
Newt's family before the Alien infestation) makes a later scene less effective (
finding Newt alive).
With regards to Alien 3, I think the Special cut is essential. The original cut is quite a mess, and while the special cut still has its flaws it is much improved - for one the story actually makes sense.
As for Alien, I prefer the slow build-up of tension of the original cut to the slightly quicker pace of new edition.
